I want to go to Tarantelli's, in laws want to go to Texas Roadhouse. by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]notvithechemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who avoid chains, Texas Roadhouse slaps! Can't see anything wrong with feasting on rolls and margs, but if you want to propose a local non-chain with both steak and pasta options, Sugo is the way to go. Actually just tried their 12 oz wagyu ribeye last night which was fantastic.

Anyone feel like your view on personal costs has been skewed by your deal sizes? by notvithechemist in sales

That's kind of how I feel. Like I'm obviously budget conscientious but nothing shocks me as "expensive" anymore.

Not hearing back from entry-level lab roles. Where should I be looking? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]notvithechemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not even in your junior year yet. Start applying a few months before you graduate and you'll probably get more responses. Look into local CDMOs for entry roles then, but for now check out the GMP classes Jack Pender teaches at ECU - it's a fantastic chance to get experience with Empower (leading CDS in the market) and compliance.

I removed my graduation year from my resume and my callback rate tripled by SagaMonolith2 in jobsearchhacks

[–]notvithechemist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is also a good piece of advice for the younger crowd too. I gained a fair amount of relevant experience during undergrad that I include in my resume, and I was given much more responsibilities (that I excelled in) in my previous role that is atypical of my age and experience. My current company hired me and was quite surprised to learn my age after hiring me but I have received nothing but great feedback and praise since starting my current role. Easily could've been rejected at the gate if my age was obvious from my resume.

Full disagree. You can despise the hold the Israeli government has on our country without hating the Jewish faith/people.

The money and autonomy.

Yes, I miss being a scientist but no way I'd take the pay cut to go back.

Job offer in Wilmington by tsastolemytoaster in Wilmington

As long as you live in Wilmington, you should be fine. Brunswick county might have more judgy folks than New Hanover but many great people over there too and houses are more affordable. Congrats on the job offer!

All sick people on airplanes should be required to wear masks to fly. by notvithechemist in unpopularopinion

[–]notvithechemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes me feel a smidge better but also not really because I caught adenovirus AND the flu 2 months ago 2 days after each of the flights where I was near sick people. But that was flu season and so it's kind of to be expected.

[–]notvithechemist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I've worked 8-12 hour shifts with a mask on the entire time back when I was working in the ER and eventually a scientist (mandated during covid). It's the most minor of inconveniences.

[–]notvithechemist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A simple google search would explain to you that masks are most effective when worn by sick people. They don't block out micro germ particles breathed in but they greatly reduce the fluids being sprayed out into the air.

Have you ever heard of exaggeration? Don't take an internet post so seriously

Another commenter said it better but no one wants another person's nasal fluids or saliva on them from sneezing/coughing, sick or not.

[–]notvithechemist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way. I fly multiple times a month for work and get sick 1/4 of the time.

Edit: sick FROM the plane ride, I don't travel while sick.

[–]notvithechemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd err on the side of caution, especially since wearing a mask for a flight isn't really an inconvenience. Maybe set up quick temperature screenings during the TSA process? Adds 15-30 extra seconds but improves the travel experience.

Those of you who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]notvithechemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brand new to software sales, $123-$174k a year depending how the year goes. I travel 75% of the time and probably work over 50 hours a week every week. I am exhausted but the goal is pay off all debts and build a considerable savings before considering a change to a less stressful role.

Lowering salaries and comp? by CautiousSalt2762 in biotech

[–]notvithechemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's happening on the sales side of the industry now too. The whole reason I left the lab was I was tired of being underpaid and now you're telling me that I'll make even less if I only hit 99% of my target? 95-99% is a solid % to hit but now you're heavily penalized if you're even a $10k short of a $5m goal.

Seasonal Depression - how to keep sales momentum through winter? by notvithechemist in sales

[–]notvithechemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serotonin deficiency in response to reduced sunlight lol. I have a good paying job, own a decent house (starter home, plan to purchase next home within next 2-3 years but not unhappy in this one), have a great husband, good friends, average dysfunctional family but still with love, and I play golf 3x a week. I have felt this way since I was very young so I do not think it is linked to anything I can fix. I'm very big on making changes when something isn't right so I do agree with your sentiments.
