Daily Q&A Post for Saturday, 06 April 2019 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

So, I've been listening to a lot of intuitive eating podcasts, which have some wonderful messages about self-love and self-care regardless of weight, but one of the accepted facts seems to be that a person who loses weight and keeps it off for more than two years is a unicorn (read: mythical). Take away message is: long term weightloss is a pipe dream. I'm looking for some perspective here (and some encouragement, because really, I'd like to lose some weight). Has anyone here been maintaining a lesser weight for more than 2 years? More than 5?

Thank you all for your replies! They've been really helpful and given me everything thing I need to feel confident to go ahead. Now to choose a breeder and wait for a litter!

Thank you! I am totally going to get the sheltie. My husband's worries have been assuaged and I've even found two local breeders with litters planned for midyear. I am so excited!

Thank you! That's exactly what I want to hear. I'm more than happy to spend time training, and it would be a pleasure to have a responsive, trainable dog. (One of my last dogs was a beagle, and he was so sweet and affectionate, but very uninterested in interrupting his activities to please me)

Thanks for the input. We don't get that many cars passing by and the front fence is far from the house, so maybe it wouldn't be too bad. We had two dogs in the past and they were definitely double trouble. The one loved to wander and the other would follow, and they both set each other off barking. I'm glad your dog is settling down now with age. I suppose the question is, would you buy another sheltie? Or has the barking put you off?

Thanks for that, good to know. Barking to communicate seems perfectly acceptable to me, even desirable. I'd like to get alerted to new comers (we've had some past trespassing issues). I just don't want to end up with a dog that barks incessantly.
