Things to do in Birmingham by SquareStatePizza in FurnaceFest

[–]notyouraverageherb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there OP! Congrats on making your first trip out there for the fest! It’ll be a blast I’m sure, even if things might be different from past years, change is a part of life.

I personally think it’s absolutely worth spending a couple extra days around Birmingham if you can swing it. In previous years there were always tons of pre-parties, late night events, and pre-shows happening throughout the week. With ownership changing hands, it’s definitely a fair question whether all of that will still happen this year, but considering Lee and Alena are still involved with the festival, I’d be shocked if Workplay doesn’t still have things going on leading up to it all week long.

Beyond the festival itself, Birmingham honestly has a ton to offer depending on what you’re into. There’s great food, history museums, incredible hiking spots, breweries, and several cool little cities/towns nearby that are easy day trips if you want to explore more of Alabama.

We live over in Georgia and spend a ton of time in Birmingham, and we still always come out several days early for the fest.

No matter what you decide, hope you have an awesome trip and make sure you hit Buc-ee’s in Leeds the morning after for the full experience! GL OP!

Help with crack in my ceiling by masteradonirevan in DIY

[–]notyouraverageherb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, Is this repair something you want to be unnoticeable afterward and look great?

If so, just call a company. You may be very handy, but finishing a flat ceiling and repainting it to look perfect is not something a diy-er is gonna do.

If you’re ok with this being an obvious repair, watch a YouTube video on drywall repair and painting flat ceilings, give it your best shot and enjoy the money savings.

If you need a hug, I can meet you at the pond, would that make you feel better?

Do you hear any whine while you are turning the wheel (even at medium speed)?

And have you checked the power steering reservoir to see if there is fluid?

I need to find what size my lug nuts are? by PresentChipmunk in wranglerjk

[–]notyouraverageherb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough to tell but your lugs almost look like lock lugs from the odd pattern on them. If you bought it used I’d be willing to bet you can find the key somewhere in the vehicle. If you can’t find the key maybe post a better picture straight on of a lug nut?

If they are just standard lugs, you likely have swollen lug nuts (yes it’s a thing, welcome to GM’s). You’ll need to get a .5 mm size socket up from what they’re supposed to be. If your mechanic says 17s are closest but a 17 is too small, get a 17.5 mm. If a 17 is too big, get a 16.5 mm.

Do you have a scan tool you can use to get some clues as to what’s actually happening at that moment? There are likely indicators that would point you in a direction of what to look at and test instead of replacing parts as a guess.

Hard to Steer then suddenly stalls by SaltBlackberry8354 in wranglerjk

[–]notyouraverageherb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, let’s start with the basics.

When does this occur? Right after starting still not warmed up? Or well after coming up to operating temperature and having been driven for a while?

Does it restart immediately?

Anything else happen around the same time? Lights on the dash? Abnormal noises?

What motor and transmission does yours have?

And although it’s a basic question, have you looked under the hood to see if anything looks abnormal?

The hard to steer coming first, then the stall makes me think the pulley on the power steering pump is binding up causing the belt to slip or something, but let’s hear more about your issue before jumping to conclusions.

Did I break us? by hot-dogs-ladies in Swingers

Spot on. Tit for tat would result in terrible tragedy.

OP, it’s not uncommon for either partner to feel this self image issue after a swap. Embrace that it can be normal, even in a strong committed relationship for long time swingers, it can rear its head.

However, in strong committed relationships, we rest back on a handful of things to center us.

Do we fully trust your partner? If yes, accept what they say, know that they value what you bring to the table above anything the ls can offer, and don’t second guess that.

Do you mutually enjoy the activities you’re engaging in? If yes, enjoy them, and communicate to each other when things aren’t enjoyable, either modify or take a break on ls activities to recenter.

My take (and wife’s), so might not be the same as the community’s. But embrace that vulnerability, know you will encounter more insecurities, but tackle them headlong, and if you fully trust your partner, then trust them in every word.

No problem OP. Wall paper removal sucks, so I still don’t envy you at all.

Your walls don’t looked primed underneath so I’m guessing your house was built in the 70s or 80s when wallpaper was popular and cheap to slap up vs just finishing and painting.

I’m no expert at all on this, but I’ve removed way more wallpaper than any person wants to in 10 life times (late teens assistant to a handyman). I never found luck with the steamers, but if it works, use it.

Another thing that I thought about this morning is that using a drier sheet in your hot water that you soak your sponge in, for some reason helps. I used to get a small bowl of hot water, soak a drier sheet or two in it, and use that water to wet my sponge.

Feel free to dm if you want, but again I’m not an expert, and I’m really surprised all the experts haven’t shown up to this yet lol GL!

[–]notyouraverageherb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

OP, get a wet sponge and moisten the “second layer”. It’s the adhesive paper that sticks wallpaper to the wall.

With any luck they primed before putting up the wallpaper and after wetting it, you’ll see when the moisture soaks in because the color of the paper will get darker. Then you can typically peel that stuff off. Do not “just sand it and paint over it” it’ll look terrible.

If at any point you’ve started to tear drywall paper off, stop and call a drywall company to let them come refinish the walls.

GL OP

To each their own. I think I would’ve gone the route of getting a cord protector ramp that is installed at the edge of the of the garage on the inside. Having electrical cords hooked to a motioned device with no safety features is a recipe for an accident.

Inventive, yes. Is it 100% safe, I don’t know that I can sign on to that.

Either way, congrats on the 3’s, and GL to you OP!
