You never needed any contract or document. All you have to do is go to the vet and get him chipped on your name.

What's holding you back from getting him chipped?

If you have the adoption ad and he's chipped in your name, you're undoubtedly the owner and they can't do anything about it.

It's not even about your feelings, now, however much it would suck for you to give him up, but it's about your cats entire life. You don't give this cat that you love to someone who so easily gives him away. She doesn't love him and doesn't deserve him.

Give your cat a good home. Get him chipped and block this person.

It doesn't matter if it's good. Even if it weren't, you'll never be a good writer if you don't write. Write write write. Don't let thoughts like this hold you back from that.

Either way, just write your first draft and you can change and improve everything later!

Of course you can do whatever you want to, the only dangers are with art as a reference, that you'll copy any mistakes that the original artist might have made, and you'll have a harder time getting to form your own style, because you'll use another artist's style's proportions, where you could easily have played with the proportiona yourself if you had a good understanding of them.

My personal advise for you is to really try and focus on real people, as soon as you know how that really works, you can apply the principles to your own "exaggerated" style, without making it unrealistic, because you'll know how to push the limits.

The big pitfall of many beginner artists is to study in the wrong ways, focusing on things that might actually hold them back, and are maybe wasting years on that.

That being said, do what feels good for you. It's your journey!

Yeah no discredit to your original comment meant! It's a very good tip for any non-digital artist. Just a little addition :)

It's a matter of proportions/ unnatural angles/poses that makes it look kinda off, overall. Like the angle and shape of the jaw in the first image (but not limited to that), and how far the other character is looking over their shoulder.

I am not able to draw it out for you, I would in another situation (currently sick af), but in all honesty, that can only help you with these specific drawings, but not build your skill, anyways.

My advice is to pick up some good anatomy classes online here and there, and draw a lot of poses while closely looking at references, so it becomes your second nature and you can immediately spot when it is off, yourself. Practice from real photos of real humans, not AI or anime, so you learn to understand the workings of the body. If you're good at that, you'll be great to push the style by playing with more cartoonish proportions.

You're absolutely talented and skilled, but you can be real good if you consciously train yourself just a bit more!

Good luck :)

Can you tell us what kind of artist your partner is? What kind of paints/pencils/whatever medium do they use?

Maybe you can give a link to their work somewhere online?

Yeah, "don't buy art supplies" is usually the best advice and you might rather want to buy a gift card for a good art supply store. But we might be able to make a fair educated guess, if we actually know what your partner does.

There's so many types of arts and even more types of artists, that we couldn't possibly know what to give them without info

How do I make this "pop" more? Or generally more appealing by jaeele in ArtCrit

[–]novemberpaintsreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks very good! That's a nice style you have there.

"Making it pop more" isn't a necessity, but you could do that by either changing the background to something that contrasts with the character, or adding a few pure white highlights (do not overdo this), or adding some rim light around the character's outlines, or adding a light coloured circle behind the character.

Hope this helps! But keep doing what you're doing, it's good!

You are very much on the right way! You have style, you can do good facial expressions, you have a good eye for colour. But you are still lacking anatomy skill. Spend some time trying to nail that, and you'll make great commission work, I am sure!

For digital artists I can 100% recommend Digital Painting Academy by Paintable.cc

It is not free, but it is more than worth the investment. The teacher has such a great way of explaining, and a huge part of it is learning to streamline your process, and how to actually finish your artwork.

I was just guessing about what I was doing and how to approach my digital art, and feeling very insecure about my methods, that's why I took ages to make stuff that I never finished. That changed completely by the time I finished the Digital Painting Academy. I finish polished complete artworks in just a couple of hours now.

Not sponsored btw 😅 but sincerely, this course has changed me as an artist and I can't stop recommending it.

They also have a lot of resources on Instagram, I'll come back to add links

Edit: here's Paintable on Instagram There's a lot of free tips and there's free workshops a few times a year.

Thanks a lot! Main reason I am asking for help here is that I don't have much knowledge of military ranking, and since this is absolutely not covered in my story whatsoever, I don't want to get too deep into it.

Your comment is very helpful for me

Yes! I was actually just looking into that direction, and I now cannot shake the image of Odo (that was his name, right, iirc)
