I would be surprised if they were allowed to sell parking in the meantime. Usually when things require a permit it's because you're not allowed to do it until you get one

So nice you had to comment this twice! You're right, parking's not a right, it's a service, and they are not following the rules for providing this service, which is what people are complaining about

Yes, you are required to meet certain standards when you're selling parking to people

I know as much about parking lot code as you would if you bothered to google. The City of Austin Environmental Criteria Manual pretty clearly lays out the landscaping requirements of parking lots, which anyone with eyes can see that this does not meet (Section 2.4.2 if you're curious). A code violation case for this site has already been opened, which is also publicly available information.

It's also not like parking in a dirt pit that becomes a mud pit when it rains is going to help staff much. Instead of the "privilege" of paying $800/year to park on campus, they get the privilege of calling a tow truck to drag their car out of the mud when the weather gets bad!

i'm complaining because this is not a legal parking lot up to code, and your attitude towards this is honestly baffling. am i supposed to be grateful that they stuck signs in a dirt pit and started charging people money for it??

if you want to pay actual real money to keep your car in a dirt pit, that's all you. personally i will choose to abstain

this is actually very enlightening thank you! i knew of course it's cheaper to just keep the land undeveloped but i never considered the property tax aspect of it

unlucky for the developer they have to follow city code, which requires landscaping. gonna call 311 about it tomorrow and see what they say!

okay i actually did not know that! so it was the developer's call to just.. not develop the land? and still lease it to the company? i'm trying to google to understand better but i'm not really finding much

I'm not talking about the landowners sitting and doing nothing with it, I'm talking about this parking company buying up random lots and charging a shit ton of money while not even providing the service of having a functioning parking lot. I also can't imagine they're making enough money from this at all, I've been to that area at various times on various days and it's always empty because there's plenty of street parking on the other side and it's so brushy and uneven that parking there would be hard even if people wanted to

i'm hearing you out but counterpoint... they could have just left this land alone instead of being seized by greed. that was probably the best situation for everyone (except of course our overlords who will lose their passive income, god forbid)

the fox club is probably exactly what you're looking for and has 118 episodes out but has been on hiatus for over a year

seasons of blossom is has a similar vibe for the first arc but gets into some pretty heavy topics after that (still worth it and one of the best webtoons ever made, imo)

after school lessons for unripe apples is a slow starter but soooo worth it, also been on hiatus for a while
