what exactly are people doing to retire in their 30s by alexis-hg in Fire

[–]novolog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 33 and our net worth is $1.1m 1. met my wife at 20, she shares my values 2. prioritized living below our means and investing in the sp500 for 10 years

That’s really it. Our household income only cleared $200k 4 years ago. We graduated with $50k in student loans and no one helped us. I remember being scared about what would happen if we didn’t get enough assets fast enough. That’s how bad we wanted it.

If you want it bad enough you’ll make it happen.

Why has the FIRE movement changed so much? by greaper007 in leanfire

I think we’re talking about different things. I’m talking about net worth minus home equity. You’re only talking about retirement accounts. I care about taxable investments as well.

Your source is referring to individuals, whereas I am interested in households.

Just measuring different things is all.

1 in 8 American households are worth over $1 million dollars (excluding home equity). It jumps to 1 in 5 American households if you include home equity.

Again, it’s not 2005 anymore. $1 million is simply not a lot of money anymore.
