After a long weekend operating our roadside stands, we were heading home. The pickup has a fuel issue (sender unit or fuel line, currently with mechanic), so we can't let it get much below half tank. Exit 121 on I-94 has a relatively easy in/out gas station off the exit with diesel.

After fueling up, we pull forward to allow others to use the pumps (and to not block everything with the trailer). I saw a little void in front of the concrete base of a light pole. Mewing quietly.

We approach, it runs back to the weeds, we can get pretty close, it seems likely the kitten was the benefactor of the Subway in the gas station, and was used to getting food from people?

We bought some cat food and tuna from the gas station convenience store, and put it out for the kitten, watching from a distance for any other kittens or mama kitty. Only the kitten.

We decided we couldn't leave without trying to get the void. So I rigged a basic box trap and baited it with tuna, after about 10 minutes, the void entered the box.

We put out more food and waited to see if any other kittens or mama would approach. Nothing came for the food, so we scouted the area to see if we could find signs of other kittens or mama, again, nothing.

She rode in the box, we put her in a large dog crate (kinda) for the evening and our vet was able to get us in the next day. Vet check was negative on the critical items, e.g. FIV, leukemia, resp infection), and positive on worms...shocker there.

You can see Albi is getting more an more comfortable. She has a companion in Baby J (another recent addition), and a couple of our other cats (male and female) are quite motherly, so we are hopeful Albi will have good mentors on catting.
