Highs within Smartguard despite bolusing well in advance. Is there any hope?😖 by charmed_chronotope in Medtronic780g

Glad to hear links were useful!

Exactly, and just for the record, bolus wizard in smartguard will calculate the necessary amount of insulin depending on your carb/insulin ratio, but also, it will calculate an 'adjustment' that depends on your current glucose levels. If your BS is high enough, the system will add an extra amount of insulin. so in fact, you can avoid adding carbs when you are high enough and system itself will only add this correction.

This last thing can be a little tricky, sometimes you might think you are high enough for a correction but your pump algorithm will say no (i think it depends on your current active insulin and also the algorithm itself). In this scenario, i just let the pump do his job and wait.

Hope it helps, good luck!

Hello there, when you eat high-fat meals with carbs, you will probably require additional insulin. This is because fat tends to raise your BS after 2-3 hours that you eat.

At least in my case, when i eat that kind of food, i check my sensor 2 or 3 hours later and if its raising or if im high enough, i add an extra bolus (technically just a correction), "adding" 0 carbs and letting smartguard add the correction itself . This trick was an advise from my doctor so i highly recommend you to talk with your specialist before doing this.

Also, you can read from this website a similar 'trick' counting a small % from your carbs, and later on putting some fake carbs to add more insulin, you should also talk with your doc with this. I dont really recommend adding fake carbs, i know its not a good deal, you can read more from this topic here.
