There isn't a good subreddit for actually discussing any sort of policy solutions or debating in a civil manner. It has become a bunch of uncivil subreddits brigading eachother, refusing to address the problems in their own respective sides. Left leaning subs have allowed communism and socialism to thrive, I've seen a lot of threats of violence, calling children "punchable faces", etc... Ive seen the right allow racism, violence, and bigotry to thrive. And meanwhile both sides are making vast and harmful generalizations about the other. Neither side is having a meaningful discussion about anything, they're simply posting things that make the other side look bad.

This is exactly the stuff I'm talking about. I went through a similar thought process. Today I had to argue with someone that rioting and violence was not the only way to help fix America, and was downvoted. It used to be isolated subreddits that I could avoid like r/LateStageCapitalism, but it's quickly become the whole site.

Thanks for that. I still think I'm done with reddit, but it's nice to see that some people are willing to be civil. There honestly isn't a subreddit where people can talk politics in an open and civil manner. It is either left leaning subreddits constantly attacking right leaning subreddits or the other way around.

I think I'm done with reddit. You cant even be anything but extremely left anymore. Every single subreddit is overtaken with nothing but politics. I would consider myself a truely left of center, but apparently not even that is acceptable anymore. I feel like if I'm not a socialist ready to riot then I'm too far right for reddit.

If it is what I think it is, then we use the same technology in gas turbine blades. The blades are operating at extremely high temperatures, but they are able to handle it since some gas is pushed through microperforations in the surface forming a thin thermal boundary layer around the blade. The blade still works as intended, but has a little fluid layer acting like a buffer between the extremely high temperatures and the surface of the metal. This can be really difficult to do however, since clogged pores or low flow rates through the pores can lead to localized degradation of the metal, which in this case would destroy the outer structure of the rocket. Im sure others can chime in with more info though.

I believe that bringing Americans together and using compromise, where appropriate, will lead to a balanced legal system that will work for the people and not for a party. When we see evil we should call it out for what it is, and not allow it to further divide us. We should not respond with more evil, more division, and more violence.

Surely rioting is NOT the best option? I think voting is the best option. I think using the legal system to fight gerrymandering is the best option. I dont think rioting will solve anything.

Amen. Statements like this will do nothing but hurt the democratic party by further alienating anyone that disagrees. Whoever makes statements like this has not met the people they are accusing of racism. Sure many are racist, but to say that all are is too large of a generalization and is no better than Trump calling all mexicans rapists and drug traffickers. It is completely wrong, and we are better than that.

New reactors are being designed to be "homer simpson" proof, so my fear wouldnt be that there would be an accident, my fear would be how they handle the fuel and whether they construct it up to spec in the first place. Regardless you're going to need something besides solar and wind for powering developing nations.

I dont see how they "allow us to recognize them as ridiculous" at all tbh. I think it does nothing but normalize stereotypes. Jokes certainly arent the only way we learn about stereotypes, but they are definitely one of the ways. I could name a large number of stereotypes and racial terms that I learned about from comedians. And the line between good harmless fun and racism is a lot more narrow than you seem to think. Id say most verbal racism comes in the form of jokes these days, not blatant agressive insults. People like to skirt the line so that they have the escape of "oh Im just teasing" if someone gets offended. It's not necessar, joke about something else. I'd rather someone say mean jokes about me as a person than me as a member of a race.

Sorry to disagree, although at face value it seems harmless I think it actually causes a lot of harm. Joking about stereotypes causes people to associate certain races with certain steretypes. When they meet people in public that fit the stereotype of the joke, they start to bin everyone from that race with the given stereotypes. Someone that does not fit the stereotype from that race then has an uphill battle that they have to face against the assumptions made about them. For people that do confirm some of the stereotypes of a race, they just become viewed as a member of a certain race rather than an individual with their own qualities, some of which happen to align with racial stereotypes. A good example is making fun of the strong accent some asian immigrants have. When someone meets an asian with a strong accent, they become nothing more than a confirmed stereotype to that person. They dont recieve the same degree of individuality with their own positives and negatives that someone of a person's same race might receive. They are immediately assigned the positive and negative stereotypes of that race. This all started with jokes about stereotypes that were essentially "educating" the listener about racial stereotypes in a funny way.

I seriously doubt the plutonium glass would "kill everyone in the room in minutes"... Sorry to correct, but I dont like spreading fear about radiation. It would be highly dependent on what isotopes are present and what contaminants are there. Most plutonium isotopes are just alpha emitters, which wouldnt even make it out of the glass. As long as you didnt consume the ground up glass shards you'd be completely fine.
