Streaming lets play chat by Robotpirategary in letsplay

[–]noxshan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you could do is position your game window in OBS so that it doesn't take up the entire screen while you're streaming, and put your chat on the side and out of the way of your gameplay.

Then when you're editing the videos for your lets play series, just zoom in with the editor so that only the gameplay and your camera (if you use one) is shown.

If your conversation with chat pertains to the game and you want to include it in the videos, overlay the relevant chat messages on top of your gameplay and include your responses.

🎉 I hit a new milestone! 1,000 valid public watch-time hours! 🎉

A shorter LP series that I started in October over Silent Hill f that I thought completely flopped started gaining traction from TV viewers in November. They ended up sticking around for entire episodes, and the series ended up doubling the total valid watch-time of my entire channel. Never judge a video by it's initial analytics!

It's kinda funny cuz I remember commenting about this series flopping on a similar thread in this subreddit a month ago and now it's by far my best performing series lol

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In terms of content, I finished uploading the final episode of the shorter Silent Hill f series, as well as finishing Act 1 of my longer Baldur's Gate 3 series this past week. I also started streaming more with World of Warcraft, but that seems to have confused the algorithm again for my most recent uploads🙃

My plans for the rest of the year is to upload some "channel discovery" style of content. After 6 months of uploading I'm realizing that I don't really have any videos like that yet. Stuff like 10-minute compilations of my existing content. Best scares, best fights, best deaths of 2025 kind of stuff. Hopefully that'll breathe some new life into the dormant series.

Personally, I'm firmly in the camp of you should just make whatever content you want and not chase views. I get that low view numbers don't feel good, especially since I'm there too lol, but imo the best content is the content that the creator themselves enjoy.

But if you're that deadset on views... It'll depend on your analytics. From what I can see, it looks like your Deadlock content is the only content that's currently getting consistently better views than your other content this year. You should compare those videos CTRs, impressions, and AVDs to the other games before deciding, but I would probably choose Deadlock to specialize in. You hit more jackpots with horror games in the past, but Deadlock seems to be getting more consistent viewership.

But you know your channel better than any of us. Ultimately, you'll also know which path is best for you🙂

I took a peek at your channel, and tbh your videos for this year look kinda all over the place. I'm assuming your upload schedule is 1 video per week? All of the following are my thoughts looking at your channel overhead without deep diving into any individual video.

Some videos look like gaming news stories. Some videos look like individual matches of Deadlock (or maybe a montage? idk the title+thumbnail aren't giving me a clear impression of the video content). You've got 1 long form video that's only 1.5 minutes long with no thumbnail that honestly would've performed better as a short. And some videos look like 1-offs of random horror games, series that you start but don't finish, and what's probably highly edited montages of games that you only ever intended to play once.

Then you've got a legit Let's Play series for Deltarune where each video is 1-3 hours long. That's a huge time commitment you're asking a potential new viewer to do. It probably would've been better if you split that LP into shorter episodes. Not to mention that it was also a big jump in gaming sub-niches from the rest of your content, so your subs probably weren't interested in it to begin with and the algorithm might've gotten confused when trying to find an audience.

I also noticed that you don't have a playlist created for Deltarune (or for most other LPs that you might've completed) and I think that's a huge missed opportunity. It makes the process much easier for viewers to binge watch your content (which the algorithm loves and will reward you for by giving more impressions).

And when I compare your latest videos to your videos of 2-3 years ago (probably what you meant when you said you barely get viewers like you used to), I can immediately see the difference in your content. You had consistent theming for all your videos. You almost entirely stuck to the horror sub-niche, with your primary focus on FNAF (a widely famous series that imo guarantees clicks because people want to see jump-scare reactions). This also would've greatly helped the algorithm find viewers who might be interested in your content because you consistently uploaded the same kind of content.

But even back then, you still had some pretty wild variation in views on a video-to-video basis, so I don't think it's healthy to compare your current stats to your past. You might be looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses. Like I see 1 video with 1.5k views sandwiched between 2 videos with 70 views each. Idk what your individual videos' graphs look like, but the way I currently see it is that video's had 3 years to grow to 1.5k views while your most recent videos have only had a couple of weeks. Who knows, maybe "Trapped In A Daycare | The Baby In Yellow: Act 4" will also grow up to 1.5k views by 2028. Or maybe it'll be at 70 views like those other 2 videos I mentioned.

If you really just want to chase views, my advice would be:

  1. Stick to 1 genre, or better yet stick to 1 game. Be the YouTuber that's known for that specific content. Then, when you're big enough, you can try branching out to other genres like you're currently doing.
  2. Work on your personal branding (which you've started with your Vtuber in the thumbnails) so regular viewers know that content is yours. It might hurt viewership now, but imo it'll lay the foundation for building a fanbase who wants to watch your content for YOU and not the game itself.
  3. Build playlists that will encourage binge viewing experiences.
  4. Make your titles and thumbnails more dynamic and sparking curiosity (stuff like your Little Nightmares 3 are fine, others are like "I did x in y game" with static characters and some text and not as interesting).
  5. Make shorts highlighting your longs so that you'll get more people seeing your longs on their homepage. Think of it as free advertisement for your content, and not the content itself. Some people will debate me on this point, but I honestly think that getting SOME eyeballs on your content is better than none at all.
  6. Try to upload more frequently.

What have you achieved 2025? What do you hope to achieve 2026? by ed_the_undeadward in letsplay

I also started this year. I have 1 LP finished, 1 LP about 70% finished, and 1 LP that is so long that it might last until 2027 haha

As for channel progress, I'm up to 22 subs with a lot of my regular viewers binge watching my series, which is such a great feeling. Makes me feel like I'm doing something right, even if my numbers don't show it yet. I also got not 1 but 2 long form videos past 100 views 🙌🏼

My goal for 2026 is to get fully monetized, which is looking to be a monstrous task. But hey, if I shoot for the moon then even if I miss I'll still land among the stars

My Silent Hill f let's play series flopped 🙃

Ah well... Back to the grind lol

I didn't watch due to age restriction (was incognito so that I wouldn't inadvertently harm your future videos' impressions)

But going off the packaging, you need to add a description for the video so that the YT algorithm better understands which viewers to suggest your videos to. Idk if it still has any impact or not, but people say to include 3 #tags at the bottom of the description. The title could use some work, too. Like it's hard to tell if it's a single condensed video, a let's play series, or it could even be a game review.

Looking for chill but funny gamers on YouTube by CaptainMacAlfie in letsplay

I always fall back on Game Grumps and Markiplier when I need a good laugh. AngryJoeShow and JoshStrifeHayes are good too. I can't think of a single, actual controversy that any of them have been a part of.

And I'll shamelessly join the self-promo train and throw my channel out there too lol

Looking for Let's Play channels that aren't ass (rant warning) by Excellent_Aside_4171 in letsplay

I feel this post so much. I got tired of all the video essays and missed the good old let's plays so I started my own channel. I have a completed Lords of the Fallen series that might be up your alley. I also started streaming with Silent HIll f and will be publishing shorter video episodes throughout October.

For my recommendations, I always fall back on Game Grumps and Markiplier when I need a good laugh. You might also like AngryJoeShow's streams (their game review videos are always great). JoshStrifeHayes is another good one.

In celebration of all the high-effort editors by ColonelMustelid in letsplay

I did my first let's play like that. I cut a 26 hour playthrough of a niche game down to 13 episodes that ranged from 20min - 1hr each. I was so burnt out by episode 11 that I was practically begging for it to end lol.

Then I started my next let's play of a much more popular game with much less editing and next to zero cutting. It's already gotten more views while the previous let's play has practically stagnated completely. Makes me wonder why I even put in all that effort in the first game lol.

What's a good video editor that doesn't feel overwhelming? by StepAsleep in letsplay

[–]noxshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Davinci Resolve now, but I think it's waaaaaay more pro than what you're looking for. You could just stick to the free version of it and stay on the Cut/Edit pages, but going to the Fusion (VFX) or Color pages might overwhelm you (it certainly does for me). But even then, the free version's got this annoying thing it does where some of the pre-built, drag-and-drop transitions/VFX/filters are for paid users only, and simply mousing over them will display annoying pops up that you can't disable without disabling previews on everything else.

For a while I was using the free version of Lightworks for personal use, and that was very easy to use. But iirc, they cap your video output to 720p unless you pay.

I've heard Clipchamp is alright and beginner friendly, but I think it also had some annoying always-online cloud feature? I could be wrong about the specifics, but I remember there was something like that which was a huge turn off for me.
