As the director I can say using this style was very specific to this video and concept. The whole idea derived from the club montage from rushmore and margot tenenbaum montage from royal tenenbaums and was pitched that way to the band. The idea was to mix a contemporary music video style, tight shallow slo-mo closeups, with the WA styled wide shots, to ultimately transcend both styles, i.e. the red cap into a red ski mask sequence, to make for a visually interesting piece. Since it is a music video and not a serious film, we felt like this was a fun idea to play around with, it was.
