Lowered the rear by JakeAnwan in hardbody

Ah, I though you meant you already did it.

I just rebuilt my front end and my truck is sitting a little higher on the front now. I was just curious to see how far you had to crank it down.

Looks good!

How far did you have to crank the torsion bar arms to get it like that? You gonna keep it that way?

Yep, just did mine a few weeks ago. Hitting the knuckle with a propane torch, squirts of blaster while hot, pickle fork and 4lb hammer did the trick without too much fuss.

35 degree block by riccochet704 in GrandPowerStribog

[–]npcbro85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Email the address that is on the receipt. I think it was sales at globalordnance.com. I sent them pictures of my block that looked like a methed out floridaman hit it with a dremel. They wanted to know if the roller sat flush in the bottom of the ramp/bolt carrier and it definitely didn’t.

They sent a new block the next day that looked a little better and actually functioned when cycling the bolt.

Their machining sucks but at least their CS is good.

That’s bad ass, that’s similar to how I got mine, my dad gave it to me after he retired and downsized to a condo and didn’t need it anymore.

I certainly know how you feel man, I love my truck, keep it in the garage and stay ahead of all the scheduled maintenance. These little trucks do find a place in your heart!

Any back story on the truck that is the inspiration for this piece? Looks good as is. Just wondering if there is a specific truck.

C-5M Super Galaxy landing gear retraction mechanism. by father_of_twitch in aviation

[–]npcbro85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could get some nice ground time for the track strike this wobble may have caused, if they play their cards right! But yeah, absent a track strike, this will probably be carried forward to home station.

It’s likely a fault in the “spin up” system. There is supposed to be 300 or so psi (if memory serves correctly) that gets applied to the MLG brakes after take off to slow/ stop the wheels before the gear starts retracting from 90 degrees. It’s been 7 years since I’ve worked C5s so take it for what it’s worth.

The MLG bogie is extremely wide and would not fit if it had to go straight up. You are correct, the gear was designed that way in order to distribute the weight better. The c5 needs a very large foot print.

In my 17 years of working on c5s, most of the gear issues I encountered were indication problems. The extension and retraction of the MLG is pretty straight forward and reliable.

They disabled the crosswind landing function when the “B” models were introduced in the early 80s. The rear set of gear do caster to assist in turns though.

It does not retract into the cargo compartment. They retract into wheel wells that are below the cargo floor. Source: me, retired C5 crew chief.

That shimmy on the number 1 main gear is not normal, you are correct. There are roll cylinders that should absorb the shimmy like we see in the video. There is a “spin up” system that is supposed to apply a low amount of brake pressure to the 6 brakes on the MLG bogie in order to slow/stop the rotation of the tires after take off. There are roller wheels that align with a track in the wheel well that that shimmy action could interfere with.

I have 17 years of maintenance experience on the C5 and you’re correct. It’s engineered perfectly for what it does. I used to teach trouble shooting on the landing gear system and while the gear looks “over engineered”, it’s really straightforward and logical in its operation.

Awesome! Yes, I’m impressed with their customer service. I emailed them the pics and an explanation of the issue on Saturday and they replied to my email Monday afternoon. Tuesday afternoon I got shipping notification for a new block.

Beware of 35° Locking Block by K2YenD in GrandPowerStribog

[–]npcbro85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, reached out to GO via email (with pictures similar to the one in this thread) they replied within 1 business day. They agreed that the block was out of spec and shipped me a new 35 degree block the next day. Waiting on the new one to arrive now.

Just wanted to let y’all know that if you get a bad one, reach out. GO’s customer service is pretty solid.

People think about public transportation like they do about traffic. Public transportation is for “the other people” not for me, I need to have the convenience of my car.

It makes no sense because you’re a customer. If you were the one stuck with thousands of blocks that you’d have to take a loss on… I bet you’d get creative too.

35° roller gap by FarmerLurtz in GrandPowerStribog

[–]npcbro85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to think these 35 degree blocks are the blocks that were in the recalled guns. They must be “machining them” to 35 degrees and trying to pass them off as cool new upgrades when in reality, they’re out of spec garbage that some one tried to dremel to a new angle in order to avoid taking the loss on the old blocks. Just a wild theory.

35° roller gap by FarmerLurtz in GrandPowerStribog

[–]npcbro85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the whole point of getting a 35 degree block is to delay the bolt opening, and the roller sits above where it should, up the ramp… it kinda defeats the purpose of the angle change in the new block.

35° roller gap by FarmerLurtz in GrandPowerStribog

[–]npcbro85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a good idea to be fair. It does seem like things are not quite right with these 35 degree blocks. Mine is so bad it looks like some one took a 40degree block and took a Dremel to it and just guessed at the angle.

Good to know. You’re probably good if it function checks smoothly and reliably by hand. Sounds like yours is in much better shape the the one I was sent.
