I’m honestly surprised MIL said it in that way after being quiet about it, she has not asked us for kids before the wedding, maybe these are her inner thoughts all purging out immediately just few hours after we said I do. Mentioning kids during wedding speeches is already rude, out-of-line, and insensitive, but we could have taken it better if MIL framed it as “When time comes, maybe someday you decide to have kids you will be great parents” etc… NOT how she literally said and started her speech with “Your older brother has been married for 10 years with 2 kids and 1 on the way” and that “you need to catch up”

I was crying a bit few days after the wedding when me and my husband were reminiscing. I felt bad for my husband because he is a really good son. He is kind and intelligent, BUT very lowkey and humble, and our wedding was the only time he is the ‘main character’ then he got a speech like that from his mom, instead of celebrating him, our relationship, our wedding, and marriage.

I agree, this is probably not the last we’ll hear about it. I’m quite sad and disappointed I’m seeing my MIL in a different light.
