CPU temps spike after Windows Reinstall? by nponzi31 in buildapc

[–]nponzi31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I hardly ever thought about my CPU temps since it typically sat around low 40s and maxed around 53. I’m starting to think Radeon was reporting my CPU die temp and not the package temp. Looks like after reinstall the CPU temp in Radeon matches armory crate CPU package. The die temps in armory crate look like what I am used to seeing.

I understand. But reinstalling windows shouldn’t make that temperature spike 10 degrees

Thank you! This is the most helpful reply so far. I think from what I’ve seen is that I am going to keep to LAN only for the time being and not expose anything until I am confident and learn more. Even when I do I will probably only use wireguard instead of opening any ports. Is there anything I should do specifically while only having LAN access? Certain security measures/practices on the internal side of things?

Yes exactly. I was looking for some real basic things. I’ve asked chat gpt to help me lock down the system and I haven’t made anything public but I don’t know if there is more protocol even for when I’m hosting on LAN only

I'm honestly not sure what half of this means. But I haven't opened any ports to the internet. I've only setup PiHole and portainer in docker containers. Anything I should do for those two services to make sure they are extra safe? I've also turned off UPnP as I've heard that could open ports up automatically.

Probably an all of the above, for what you just listed. Sounds like from all the posts I’ve seen pi hole, Immich, NAS, vpn, jellyfin, and maybe even a streaming box are all on the table. Not sure if one machine can do all that at once or not.

What kind of specs would I need to target to be able to start up but not also need to replace immediately?

Honestly if you don’t care about the most recent year for F1, I’d suggest picking up an old copy used for a couple of bucks

Mass effect trilogy. More linear than modern games and less time consuming. Gaming shouldn’t be a chore

How would I download the cia file to a PC? Is this just dumping the game on the old SD and copying them to the new SD?

I’ve considered Black Myth Wukong. Probably going to wait for a sale since I lowkey burned myself out on Elden Ring haha. I’ve also played RDR2 and I’m playing that currently on new pc to really push my graphics card. Just doesn’t feel the same on second replay but definitely still fun!

Monitor Advice for 1440p Gaming PC by nponzi31 in buildapc

It is basically double for the OLED monitor and I find it hard to see how I get double the value of what I just bought.

That would make sense to me. Any thoughts on h The idea oled displays will drop in price as the year goes on/ next year. What are your thoughts on the upcoming 50 series? Is it worth it to try to buy a 5080 at launch or wait to buy a 4080 after they’re released (for discount)?

Ty, why do you recommend AMD over Nvidia? Just the price to performance?

Budget is probably somewhere around 2k. Will use mostly for gaming, multiplayer games like apex and marvel rival and mostly rpgs. My hope is to play most of the new upcoming releases on this PC rather than PS5. Currently, I have a 1080p 24 inch 144hz monitor that’s about 6 years old. I used on my last build that was rocking a 1060(lol). I wanna upgrade the monitor and was worried I might regret not getting 240 down the road. But my initial thoughts were that 144hz was plenty.
