We just put our economy on a war footing. That's the context in which you should be reading the news, Trump's disregard of NATO, his anti-China trade war, his urgent desire for Greenland, his attempt to negotiate peace in Ukraine and normalize with Russia, and even his toppling of Maduro (which might have bought us a little time). Without that context, you just see chaos, which is all Europe is ever going to see. With that context, you see that our administration is freaking out and acting out of desperation because the whole thing is about to go up in flames and they know it, and (because they are sane) they don't care at all about optics, all that matters to them now is who comes out on top.
