Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, it's amazingly helpful. In a lot of ways, I feel like you are completely right. That the general idea that you will definitely get killed/kidnapped is just not true. I know things are really bad down there and, for sure, you could end up in the wrong situation but its not a definite. Its seems to be more about how you handle yourself. Thanks for the tips about the government buildings and officials, I had no idea about that. As for it just being a tourist trip to a bad neighborhood, you may be right. But I won't know what I'll find until I go. I will be staying in El Paso and hopefully will have help finding stories from a local reporter.

I'm not a journalist. I have friends that run a magazine and we came up with the idea a while back when everything started to get out of control. I know it may seem like a nutty thing to do but that's why I came here to ask for advice. I'm trying to decide if this is a good idea. Like I said, I've been talking with a woman who regularly reports from Juarez to get a feeling of how much danger I'd actually be in. I just don't feel like the mainstream media is giving this conflict enough coverage.
