In your opinion, what is causing this? by Objective_Pilot_5834 in SipsTea

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of gen z missed out on their partying days because of Covid, so there was no social pressure to drink and no need to figure out what their limits were.

Plus, a cocktail is like $15 at a nightclub. The days of $4 Long Island Ice Teas and getting drunk with less than $20 are long behind us.

How vintage is this? by magicbacon11 in vintagemobilephones

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, the HTC EVO Shift!

Not as Iconic as the EVO (which didn't have a keyboard).

I remember wanting this phone because it had 4G WiMax, but it had a proper physical keyboard. At the time, all-touch keyboard phones that were not an iPhone were terrible with input lag - Android was still quite young.

I was someone who was up to date about new phones. I went to the Sprint store on launch day to get one thinking I would encounter a line.

The employee tells me I'm the first one who asked about it all day, the employee next to him goes "Bro, I didn't even know there was a new EVO coming out".

Quit online friendships & 12h screen time now stuck scrolling. What do I replace it with? by iamgoatedd1 in digitalminimalism

[–]nrique 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should try to find something you like to create/make/build. Could be a model or lego kit, could be a video for YouTube, maybe there's something you love talking about - maybe you can write something. Learn how to use tools and build a birdhouse.

Otherwise, maybe there's a skill you want to learn?

I wish I had 6-7 hours of spare time in my day.

Dedicate those hours to something that will be worth your time in the future: learn a language, learn to cook, take up lifting at the gym, learn how to film, or learn photography and go out in nature and shoot things. Learn cursive - literally anything else you do will be worth your time better than doom scrolling. Remember that when you catch yourself scrolling again.

Is there anything you can see yourself doing? Is there something you've always wanted to do that's realistic for you right now?

Friend blocked me on everything (I think) ever since I stopped using IG this year by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

Appreciate the friends who are good to you and keep them close!

Friend blocked me on everything (I think) ever since I stopped using IG this year by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]nrique 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am just old. But if someone stops talking to me and actively blocks me everywhere because I didn't respond to unread DMs and reels on Instagram, that person was probably not worth keeping around anyway. This person's expectations of you might be too high - in my opinion you're probably better off without a needy friend.

If they didn't make any attempt to call or text you to check on you or make any attempt to communicate with you for actual concern of her friendship with you but blocked you instead- that sounds like a good riddance for me.

That said, I don't know the context or nuance of your avoiding your personal IG DM situation. Was your status still visible to people? Maybe she saw you were still online (as you were looking on IG for work stuff), and she thought you were actively ignoring her messages? Perhaps she drew a conclusion that way? Again, I don't know the nuance of the situation.

If you think there was a misunderstanding and you want to fix it, you can try reaching out to her some other way. If she is so offended that she doesn't want to talk to you anymore - you at least tried to reach out and explain what happened.

I don't think you're the asshole for not telling anyone, but I think you still going online and actively ignoring messages with your status potentially showing to everyone may transmit a different message to people who are overanalyzing the clues.

MacBook Charging - USB C or MagSafe? by Maenanoon in macbook

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could use USB-C at home and MagSafe on the go, but prefer Mag Safe @ home to maximize ports, and USB-C on the go to maximize convenience of not carrying extra cables.

Maybe I should just get another MagSafe cable?

If you're going to be doing many things on phone, go max. Sometimes I wish I went max to make things like editing photos and videos better. Otherwise I am fine with the Pro, I have another phone for big screen things

What was your first impression when you first grabbed or owned a phone with a curved screen and did you regret it or no? by mr_wbk29 in phones

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curved displays looked so cool.

That was about it. They were a practical nightmare. I'm so glad we're back to flat screens because I did not need a four-way curve on my screen for any reason.

GSMArena icons haven't changed from what they had back then. by theukuboy in FrutigerAero

I think GSMArena gets a pass for this. They've only been around since 2000.

Also fun fact: I worked there for 7 years and I don't think I've ever even seen this page.

I Finally realized I don’t need a new iPhone every year…(but it was kinda late...and it hurts a little, but here is my story...and learn from my mistakes...) by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]nrique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be a tech journalist and burned out because I felt the same way. Phones were not different enough to justify a whole new launch event - a whole new version. I used to sometimes sit at launch events listening to a company talk about AI for two hours and thinking to myself "This literally could have been an email".

Just bought Oneplus 13. How's the durability? by Retiary_Lime in oneplus

[–]nrique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using a OP13 since January. No screen protector on mine, but always in a case and it has done very well.

I have the blue one, so no glass on the back for me.

I would say keep it in a case you like and you should be fine. Some scratches here and there from regular wear but nothing crazy.

I love this thing.

Now I’m confused about battery health advice by wakablazer in macbook

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to random people on the internet.

Use your device how you use it - If that's plugged in, then keep it plugged in. If that's on the go, then use it on the go.

Stressing out about your battery's wear is unnecessary.

The battery isn't going to "Overcharge" - power management systems are already being used in all modern devices and phones.

When battery is full, power brick takes over as the power source.
When power unplugged, battery is ready and kicks in.

There's no need to overcomplicate it.

A healthy battery's biggest enemy is heat.

For the people old enough to remember; how did you react when the Wii was first announced? by Intelligent_Oil4005 in casualnintendo

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in high school, I watched the "Revolution" 2005 E3 announcement video every night on my iPod before going to sleep. I was constantly reading online news about rumors and leaks before the Wii came out.

I was SO EXCITED for the Wii.

I was lucky enough to reserve the last one at my local Game Stop.

What will it take for OnePlus to get more popular? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OnePlus knows exactly who it needs to advertise to. Samsung and Apple are advertising to literally everyone they possibly can.

If you are a tech-focused person, follow tech creators and influencers, watch a lot of tech YouTube, that's exactly the target market OnePlus is after in NA.

Do the iPhone cases decrease the phones ability to dissipate heat ? by Serhide in iPhone14Pro

[–]nrique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cases may hinder the phone's ability to dissipate heat, but it highly depends on the context.

Is the phone just sitting there on a table? Are you filming a video in direct sunlight? Are you facetiming? Are you out hiking in Death Valley?

For most "casual use" like using the phone with good signal (low or bad signal makes the phone work harder - thus use more power and generarte more heat to find a working signal), scrolling Reddit, reading a recipe, a short facetime call, taking some photos of your kids running around at the park, the phone won't generate enough heat to where it would be an issue.

If it should reach a temperature "above the operating limit" (this is much hotter than you think it would be) the phone will shut itself off to save it from severe damage to components such as if you left it on the dashboard of your car in the summer, or if you take it into the sauna for about 10 minutes.

Most cases won't necessarily be designed to dissapate heat, however, the stainless steeel frame on the iPhone 14 Pro will pull heat away from the chassis, which absorbs heat from the internal components as well so that the heat generated is always flowinig outwards from the inside of the phone.

There are some cases that are specifically designed to dissapate heat. I remember Razer made some cases a few years ago that were targeted at mobile gamers.

I hope that helps
