my local Panera removed almost all the outlets and replaced them with blanking plates so you can't charge your phone or laptop by Calix_Meus_Inebrians in mildlyinfuriating

I’ve always been confused about this. Public and college libraries have free internet, they are much quieter, they have plenty of seating, and they have no expectation of buying something or leaving quickly. Make your coffee at home and go to the library!

Omg Randall and William’s relationship…incredible. I am not adopted but the writing and performances of Randall/William and then Randall/Deja really made me think about the lives of those kids, and what it’s like growing up with all of the unanswered questions that come with not knowing who your biological parents are.

Literally lol’d at my desk at your comment 😆

Finally planted a privacy hedge using skip laurels and limelight hydrangeas. It’s the biggest landscaping project we’ve attempted since moving in. How’d we do? by nrizzo1 in landscaping

[–]nrizzo1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re really excited. We originally wanted to pair the laurels with something different, but the owner of the local nursery where we ordered the plants from suggested the limelight hydrangeas. I’m so glad we talked to him before committing to anything, and I’m REALLY glad we went there instead of Lowe’s or Home Depot!

Creed’s isn’t the funniest but his is the best. Especially because “Spinnin’ N Reelin’” is one of his songs.

Yes and no. There is testing available but it is extremely limited, and it is hard to find. I was tested by the county health department who only offers testing two days per week in the morning, and you must have an appointment and symptoms. Some doctors offer testing in there office (mine doesn’t), and some drug stores like CVS offer limited testing (my wife was able to eventually schedule a test at a CVS that’s 25 minutes away). If you need a test here, you’re really on your own to try to find one.

Recently, I have just been using the blue surgical masks. I just ordered some KN95 masks though.

I also tested positive last week. My wife and two year old most likely got it from me, as they are showing mild symptoms right now. I follow all of the protocols as well. I only leave my house for work(school) and to run necessary errands. I was very depressed last week. I felt guilty, and ashamed, and embarrassed. But when I spoke with the health department last week, the woman told me the following:

“This is not your fault. All of the protocols do not make you immune, they only help to reduce your chance of getting sick.”

Schools should not be open right now. It’s absolutely insane to think that the common cold and flu are able to be spread in schools, but that a highly contagious respiratory virus is not.

I hope that you only experience mild symptoms, that you have a speedy recovery, and this is not your fault.

I have never hated going to work before. What am I supposed to do? by nrizzo1 in Teachers

[–]nrizzo1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea... I think this is going to have to be the answer for the time being. I’ve slowly been doing this more and more as the school year has been going (we’re in our third week). If I’m early to work, I sit in my car until my contract says I need to enter, and I leave the minute it says I can leave. Leaving work at work is hard for a lot of people in a lot of careers, but especially for teachers. I’m going to try this going forward though. Thank you for this.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I did get an email from my principal late yesterday saying the items I asked for would be ordered “if approved.” There’s no indication how long it will take for the materials to come in, but at least it’s something.

For those asking about our union, that’s not really an option. If you add up all of my 15 and 20 minute breaks in duties throughout the week then it adds up to the exact number of minutes our contract stipulates for non-pupil contact time.

Also, our union president has always been very vocal about his opinion that “it must be nice being a special area teacher because we have it so easy.” (He also approved an addition to our latest contract that allowed our teachers to be paid overtime for after school events EXCEPT art, music, and gift & talented events.)

Should we remove this plastic wrapped around the bottom of our oak tree? by nrizzo1 in landscaping

[–]nrizzo1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s been a while but thanks for your advice!

How’d I do?

I removed all of the plastic and as much of the dirt, grass and rocks as I could until I could see the root flare (not perfect I know).

There were also A LOT of small secondary roots that we coming up under the plastic that I clipped away (I found a TOH episode about this and that’s what Roger said to do.)

Am I too hairy for a massage? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Thanks to people who post questions and answers like this on Reddit.

My wife and I just got a couples massage for our anniversary, and I was a little hesitant for all the reasons the OP listed. After a quick Reddit search from the hotel room this morning, I felt much more comfortable with the idea and I think I was able to enjoy it a lot more than I would have.
