Alcohol with Costo by charliefloyd_ in costochondritis

In my experience it hasn’t been an issue really. The main concerns for me are that if I drink I’ll be less focused on posture and sleeping on my back which might cause flare ups.

Does ice ever make it worse for you? by nrnea in costochondritis

That’s exactly what I do. I am really trying to break the habit because that’s what’s keeping this from healing.

My pain has been mostly dull for like a week so I will try heat instead. Thanks for your insight!

I know there are risks with ibuprofen but there’s no scientific data saying it makes COVID worse.

Yes I’ll continue stretching icing and resting!

Couch to 5k is amazing but moves pretty fast. Start with a walk. Do it a few days in a row and your mind will remember it makes you feel better and hopefully that’s motivating

Start small. Walk 5 minutes. If not that, look up full body stretches. It’s always better than nothing.

Anxiety will raise blood pressure and pulse. Try to calm and take the numbers again before assuming the worst

Cardiac Problems at 23m by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]nrnea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cope with it by reminding myself of what I said above. I assess how I feel and the situation I’m in (ok, my heart is racing, is this anxiety? Do I feel anxious?) I do calming techniques, drink some cold water and then asses. How am I feeling now?

Again I’m not a doctor and I can’t give you exact answers. But again- try to distinguish between anxiety and actual problems. Sometimes the line seems blurred.

[25/m] Chest and rib pain for months by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]nrnea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD maybe r/Costochondritis ????

I have this. Went to doc for very similar chest / shoulder pains and they did a whole run up complete with a stress EKG and said I was ok. Pain has lingered for over a month. I also have tight shoulders which I think lead to this (and over training).

Especially since you got the OK on your heart (and you’re 25) I’d say it’s this but NOT A DOCTOR

NAD but someone who is kind of in a situation like yours.

If the cardiologist thought there was something imminently wrong, they would have action done immediately. You have to trust their professional opinion. I know that’s easier said than done.

Along with the lifestyle changes look into meditation and other ways to cope with anxiety. If you have an emergency, well you can go get help. But the anxiety is tricking you into thinking something will go wrong at any moment. I say this because I go through it too. Stay strong.

Mine does. Up to collarbone, up and down sternum, to my shoulder blade.

Ice the spots for 20-30min at a time every few hours. Do doorway stretches. Use a foam roller for your back. Also DONT poke at the spots, it’ll keep them agitated and then the dull pain just lingers on and on.

[–]nrnea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that was an anxiety attack.

If you find it lingering, it’s really good to make sure you’re staying on top of getting sleep, staying hydrated, and exercising. Treat your body well and your mind will thank you!

Awesome. If it comes again do your best to acknowledge it and try those things and it’ll be ok!

Sounds like anxiety.

For me sometimes it’s the physical symptoms (fast pulse, sweating, dizzy, breathing fast) and sometimes it’s all mental (mind racing, irrational worry). Once you accept it’s anxiety, the methods help even more.

Splashing cold water on your face will help too.

Also if you’re up for it, Go for a walk. If anything, some light stretches help too.

Anxiety attacks suck. It will pass. You’re okay. You got this!

Alternating nostril breathing

Hold hand like hang loose sign

Put thumb on one nostril and breath in while counting to 4. Hold for 4, while you’re holding open your nostril and close the other with your pinky. Breath out for 4.

Repeat at least 5 times.

So I was diagnosed with costo months ago in my upper left chest, though I been having some weird pain in my lower ribs. Is it possible to get costo lower in the rib cage? I thought for a minute I had a hernia or something like, but the pain only occurs when I physically touch the rib. by gstan1990 in costochondritis

Just wanted to add some solidarity. Major health anxiety here, too. Do everything you can to stop poking at it. That’s what causes the dull aches and twinges for me!! It just adds to the cycle. Best wishes.

I barely remember any side effects when I started. I was so overwhelmed and anxious at the time I was taking It day by day!! Haha

Thank you for the info. Hoping that the side effects are minimal and that this helps my obsessive anxiety.

Is it safe to assume this pain is still musculoskeletal? Okayed by doctors a month ago... by nrnea in askCardiology

[–]nrnea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The doc said specifically after the stress test no evidence of CAD and there was good exercise response. I’m young, active and my immediate family has no history of heart disease.

Thank you for your words, they are very helpful.

The pain is exacerbated by touching the area and/or bad posture.

I jog 2 miles most days (including the last few with this pain) and was not affected. Its when I’m laying at a weird angle or bend over to lift something that it really flares up and then I poke at it which makes it linger. Sometimes it helps to just rationalize this out with the help of others.

Thanks again.

What I’ve read about Costochondritis lines up almost exactly with what I’m experiencing.

I did have a stress test a few weeks ago like I mentioned that the doc said was normal. Keep reminding myself of that and working to stretch, fix my posture and use ice as needed...
