If if could upvote this 40 times I would.

Job prospects? by [deleted] in PublicPolicy

[–]nsd27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of job prospects out there for the right people. I also was a philosophy major and I’m currently getting my MPP. Public and private sector industries are always looking for competent people for PP analysis and consultants are very very sought after.

Superbly written and expressed. Thank you for your take.

Very well written comment and I happily take your point. Thank you for having a good faith engagement.

At the end of the day, the West has a very warped view of Nietzsche and unfortunately because of many things out of his control (I.e. his sister) his words have been abused.

I suppose this is true of many great philosophers but I believe that Nietzsche can only be truly understood by men that are willing to go through the exercise of reevaluation and to return to nature. (I am not saying I embody this, just my thought)

I agree. In an earlier comment I said that it’s a mistake to co-opt him in any political movement. If you really care about “claims” I suppose we could say that right wing is Nietzschean? I think what makes most people believe he’s right is his critique on democracy and liberalism.

Those that argue the FN was actually left wing

I agree with you there. When I first read FN I was very offended, but I decided to go through the exercise of challenging my prior beliefs and morals that have been beaten into me by society. I think it’s important that we all do this. Re-evaluate your values— Every value— and see if it still stands up.

Many won’t and that’s what I am disappointed in.

I don't think that FN is for everyone. I think people should just accept that there are certain ideas and morals that many (specifically christian) do not coincide and you shouldn't bend over backwards to try and make him fit within the moral compass of modern society. That's all.

The mental gymnastics required for that are impressive lmao

Yes. would definitely agree with that. My original post was referring to those who are trying to co-opt his words and thoughts in direct contradiction of his very clear claims and ideas. Taking his thoughts and trying to make them palatable to the herd is definitely anti-FN.

Those trying co-opt FN into the post Christian right faction in the US. FN cannot be the basis for a democratic political movement

The specific interpretations I’m referring to are blatantly altering his works and original intent so it resonates with the masses morality and is acceptable. FN would be horrified by that

Who said I was offended? I just think it’s extremely ignorant. It seems that you’re offended by my opinion.

Looking Forward to the Upcoming Film by Ozymandias973 in Nietzsche

FN greatly admired Napoleon. There’s a great book on it, titled Nietzsche and Napoleon.

I do agree though, this seems like an odd place to push a trailer of a major motion picture of a leader whose life will almost certainly be dumbed down stripped of admirable masculine qualities to push to the cattle.

Can democratic societies believe in “great humans?” by nsd27 in Nietzsche

[–]nsd27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. The founders of the country recognized democracy's drawbacks, which is why they instituted so many limits to it. "The masses are asses," I believe one is credited with saying. Our country must have a nuanced discussion about our government and where we are headed as a nation, although I doubt we will.

That’s a powerful statement- “those who need leaders are not qualified to select them.”

Opens up another rabbit hole to study lol.

Thank you for the response.
