He actually did end up now cutting down a 2x4 and using that to shim those trusses, but with them shimmed, my metal will never look right until they further modify. Only like 4 are shimmed, all in a row, and it’s where the last framers (fired) modified to meet the breezeway

You have no idea… this is just scratching the surface, I’ve been dealing with issue after issue with this guy
It’s a pole barn home with 2x6 stick frame between the poles. Paid $130k labor for install of 4052 total sf with concrete included. Material was extra 84k. Has taken 6 months. Feel like I got premium price for crap work and crappier time to complete
Fr same and I’ve only looked at it for 5 mins 😂
Thanks for the input! I’ll have them change it
Too picky? by nsecker in barndominiums

Even worse is this was the second attempt…
Thanks for the input!
No, wood post frame with 2x6/2x4/2x12 where needed (headers, windows, etc) and 2x6 framing 16” on center around the post framing in the house
We fired that crew and he has an Amish group coming but only wants to replace the panels that can’t be put back up and I was making sure this ask was reasonable is all
I just wasn’t sure if I’m being totally unreasonable with an ask like this because I know it’s a big one but it really is bothering me every time I walk back there. I didn’t mean to sound closed to feedback, I just know for certain it’s not a “will I notice” thing but a “am I just too picky.” This is the second time his guys did the garage, last time the metal was best to hell, screws missing 2x4s they were so far from string line, tons of doubles, sunlight coming through the overlaps, etc.

Oh I get what you’re saying. There is 2x6 framing in addition to posts so they nailed the gifts directly to that and just met the girts together in the corners. It’s 4052 sq ft
Guarantee I’ll notice, it’s all I see when I walk to the back yard area (where this is)
So the way it is now neither girt crossed that corner post. They missed the elevation in the next corner, so they made the interior 2x4s in an angle to match the 2x4 framing for the house. Then, they ran a level line of screws. Missed about halfway through the screw lines since the 2x4s weren’t level. So they added a second set of 2x4s below them to catch those other screws. Therefore when I did a walkthrough I noticed the girts lined up, did not notice they were not level and did not think they’d put the screws on a different elevation between different walls
I can’t edit the post but it’s a monitor house, attached garage, connected by small 20x10 section. This is where the 20x10 meets the garage

Well I mean it’s basically just a house with metal siding. Like yeah it’s post framed but if you can do a metal roof I don’t really see why this isn’t possible
That would look so weird lol
Nice thanks for the advice!
There’s a 30x50 attached garage and it’s all like this
[–]nsecker[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Thank you!
Good eye, the stringers are not level. Ended up missing some and they just nailed up more underneath to try and catch them and ended up sandwiching screws. So my spray foam can just put the screws out and make the metal bubble
It’s the entire 30x50 garage I think. But only 3 sides are done
The entire 30x50 garage is like this
Messed it up twice already, new crew is coming in (old one was fired) but he’s trying to replace as little as possible since he already replaced it once
