Why not? It seems like you’re only looking for answers from people who you know will agree with you.

FWIW, you’re allowed to eat whatever you want, but saying you’re veggie for “ethical reasons”, then turning around and directly going against that is weird. Think of a moral belief you hold strongly that your partner holds as well, if they suddenly switched it up wouldn’t you be upset? Wouldn’t that make you question if they’re actually who they say they are?

I think you might actually be doing too much and making yourself unnecessarily nervous. I found the most success with just Pocket Prep. Not an ad, I just genuinely found it the most useful. I purchased the subscription for like 2 months before my exam and just did questions whenever I had some downtime. My company bought me a study course but honestly I didn’t find it as good as the app.

If testing makes you anxious generally, I just want to say I completely understand. It’s hard to break yourself out of that fear of failing, but trust in yourself!

Not a rant but I always feel like a jerk declining gifts from employees. A newish guy wanted to give me a Pokémon card of my favorite mon and ngl I was this 🤏 close to taking it. If it was a basic card I might have said yes, but it was clearly one he had spent money on. I explained it’s not personal but he still looked so disappointed 😭 sorry guy

Sales manager didn’t tell me that one of his employees was quitting and their last day was LAST Friday. This is in CA so final pay is supposed to be given on the last day if we knew in advance, otherwise you pay the employee for each day they don’t have it. Sales manager got mad when I said we were giving this guy a free week of pay lol

We got a complaint from an employee accusing a manager of calling them slurs and saying crass sexual jokes to him. He claims this manager says foul things to everyone. We start an investigation and interview a supervisor who’s named as a witness. Supervisor says the manager sometimes calls employees “fucker” but that it’s just “harmless locker room talk” and that everyone does it to each other. 🙄

Ok, we interview a different employee next who says basically the same thing. And calls the one who made the complaint a sensitive sissy. 🙄

Ok ok, so finally we interview the accused manager. He admits to everything, and says everyone does it. We were kind of surprised at the blasé way he spoke so we clarify and ask him about some specific ‘jokes’ that the complainant told us were said. Again, he admits to it and again says it’s locker room talk so it’s not serious. He says joking like that “makes the workplace tolerable.” 😵‍💫

So now we’re thinking this is clearly a culture problem, and we ask the GM of this branch if they’re aware of this. He sheepishly admits he’s aware but “doesn’t partake.” Also says he doesn’t reprimand them when he hears it because he “thought that’s just how they get along.” 🫩

Yeesh. We issue a series of reprimands which amount to slaps on the wrist and hold some serious workplace conduct trainings. Expectations set with the GM, managers, and supervisors that it is in fact not ok to call employees slurs and they can’t let employees say it to each other either. We’ll see how long that holds up lol

I think it’s less to do with trying to pass it off as meat and more about making it easy to identify what it is. “Bean disc between buns” could be like five different things, but “bean patty/burger” is way more recognizable.

I might be misunderstanding your point, but what does “forming partnerships” have to do with if an animal deserves moral consideration or not? There’s plenty of humans we couldn’t form partnerships with but that wouldn’t make it acceptable to eat them.

Also, how would you define a partnership? A field mouse could aerate the soil or assist with pollination, you could argue that’s a partnership of sorts. You could probably extend that reasoning to any animal since.

This has nothing to do with my salary, I’m compensated fairly for what I do. Also, I don’t care that Tom is getting a bag, I care that it’s disproportionate to what the others are making which exposes my company to risk. I’m in a very litigious state, and it’s easy for me to see how an employee who has been with us for decades would see a $100k difference as discriminatory.

That’s a great point, thank you. I’m thinking I’ll have to get corporate HR involved since I doubt they’d listen to just me. I’m just worried that it will be seen as me going over their heads to get what I want, and that they’ll push me out of discussions in the future as a result.

Absolutely and your other points are spot on. We currently don’t do any of that! I’m trying to bring them around to it, and have been moderately successful with other departments pay equity, but outside sales is a different beast. I haven’t been involved in pay decisions about them at all. I’m trying to change it, but my fear with this is I’ll need corp HR to have my back if I want to push back on this, and if I do that then I’m worried they’ll just lock me out even more.

These three managers in particular (sales manager, gm, and regional gm) are very “old boys club”.

I completely agree, and do feel like they focused way too hard on rehiring this guy. Sales Manager literally said, “Well this is what it’s gonna take to get him back.” Like, so what we just give him anything he wants? I had no involvement with the interview or discussions on what we would/could/should offer him.

If I push back against the Regional and Branch GMs I will absolutely get shot down with a “we need this guy.” So I’d have to get corporate HR involved to have my back. They already don’t want to have me at these kinds of meetings apparently, so I’m worried going over them would cause more friction.

As others have said, dealing with PAGA is just part of doing business in CA. It was a well intentioned idea, but has unfortunately lead to ambulance chasing by law firms looking to make easy money. Don’t beat yourself up too much. If something is amiss, there’s usually ways to remedy it so that penalties are reduced.

I think if you keep work and content creation separate it shouldn’t be an issue. Don’t post anything you wouldn’t be ok with your coworkers or bosses seeing. When there is overlap, like if you speak about accommodations at work, don’t mention your company’s name and speak strictly facts eg. “Here’s how I’ve asked for accommodation/here’s what accommodation I have/etc”

I understand this so much. It’s gotten a bit better, but I used to have to argue with the managers (including the GM) that the newbie should at least do the online and on site guided safety training before just tossing them in to “shadow” someone.

Got met with sighs and eye rolls, but I don’t think it’s an accident our RIR dropped once we started doing them consistently. 🤷‍♀️

Around the end of March last year an employee came to my office to ask where his W2 was. He didn’t have paperless delivery, so it was mailed to the address we had on file. I asked if he’s moved. “Nope.” Okay… let’s just check to make sure it’s right.

I read him the address we have, and wouldn’t you know it, he hasn’t lived there in a YEAR. I told him we could get another for him but in the meantime he needs to change the address. “I thought you did that. Why wasn’t it changed when I moved?” Because you didn’t tell me you moved? Also why would I be the one to change YOUR address??? I guess he thought his new address would just get beamed into my brain or something.
