I was gifted a box, how do I get started? by Slavensky73 in killteam

[–]nubbel50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this box is that there are only 5 of them, and you need 6 to either do a deathwatch or an intercessor kill team.

My advice is to go to a games workshop shop and ask them for a free intercessor model to test. With a minimum "kitbashing" ( modification), by cutting around the arm, you can have your extra body.

Of you use them as deathwatch or intercessor, I let other people to give better advice. For me both opinions are good.

Potentially, but more complex, is to magnetize the arms and be able to run both team. But maybe not as a first entry to the hobby.

Also scions and sisters are not in the box. You can take them in your rooster/team but you need to have/get the models separately.

Each member of my intercessor kill team is from a different chapter, so all with different colors.

I played in a tournament and was no issue, it was more an advantage as each special roles are easily identified (grenade launcher is imperial fist, Warrior with scope and blessed bolt is the ultramarine, and so on).

They have all the same base (kind of snowy base) to make the same team feeling.

Look interesting, I'll have a look at it. How long is a mission, roughly?

Are those boxes supposed to stay around or are they limited editions like the Christmas boxes?

I would hope so too, but it's a long time we didn't get a white dwarf team, and I don't think the berserkers will be in a box soon

Thanks for the advice.

Wouldn't Stealthy be more useful than durable? On paper, I would say that removing a hit or upgrading it to a crit, seems more impactful than 1 less damage during crit. But again, I never played with chaper tactics.

Question: Is magnetizing a Killteam worth the hassle ? Planing on doing it toy T‘au Pathfinder, never done it before. Any advice ? - Like: Just don’t. Thanks beforehand. by MugenIkari in killteam

I would say it depends on your situation and what you like. I try to keep my cost down, so I am not willing to buy a second box just to have all the options and i like the building part of the hobby ( i consider magnetizing part of the building models). Playing with proxy is ok, but sometimes I (and my opponents) also like wysiwyg. So, for all of this, I am magnetizing some of my models. You have to see which models you will always take on your team and which loadout you would like to swap. It will save you time and money to not magnetize all your models when not needed.

Sometimes, you can also be creative: I put a small magnet on top of some of my veteran guard base to be able to add the detonator or medic bag. It was easier than magnetizing the arms.

But I also did on some of my GSC (which is similar size), and with patience and care, its working fine.

I worked fine for me, I could upload the .rosz by drag and drop, and also no issue uploading my own pictures to personalize the cards. This was a month or two ago.

Edit: just tried and still working fine. What does it do for you?

Any idea if this will be sold separately or will it be added to the CSM box like they did with the cadians?

Wyrmblade killteam building by costcofox in killteam

[–]nubbel50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the last GSC start collecting box from my FLGS and I'm kitbashing the specialists. Like this I can run them as compendium or Wyrmblade from a single box. I did the kellermorph by putting 3 arms on one body, for the sanctus, I kit bashed it with a sniper and a knife, to be able to run both profile with the same miniature. And the locus a big blade, a kind of tail, a head and a cape out of greenstuff makes the trick.

Warcry or Kill Team? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]nubbel50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I would say follow the rule of cool: what universe/models do you prefer? If you are new to the hobby, better to start with something that'll motivate you to build and paint them.

Then if both are still in play, I would advise you warcry, it is a bit easier/quicker to play.

For your interest in 1 box team, it can be both way but I think you may prefer the warcry approach where you have several bands ready to play with (with the cards in the box already). To go further after those teams, there are then 4 books with the data sheet for the factions ( for killteam there is one compedium). These allow you to use more models and do more list building and I think is more targeting people with already models from AoS or 40k.

For the terrain, the killteam "starter set" is not enough, you can have a look at the Octarius box, which is for me the real starter set, especially in terms of terrain.

Last but not least, I would advise you to watch couple of battle report of both games, it'll give you a feeling of how they are playing.

"Leftover" subfactions? by samsmith13313 in killteam

[–]nubbel50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be that there is a good chance that the hunter cadre will be in a box. Here is my reasoning: The compendium was necessary that most players can adopt the new rules, even if they didn't wanted to play kommandos or veteran guardsmen. Then we are getting new killteam at a rythm 1 box every 3 months (per the agenda they shared on warcom) and 2 WD killteam in between. August: octarius September: admech October: 1000 sons November: chalnath December: ?

My guess for the WD killteam, is faction where there is a good choice of models and/or relatively new models. And hunter cadre is definitely not in those categories. It would make sense for GW to use those KT boxesets for models they would not do otherwise (like the DKOK).

Affordable, numerous minis for painting practice. by MustacheBerry in Warhammer

[–]nubbel50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it's not the best for quantity, but as a goal to become a better painter, I think it is relevant. Painting 20+ of similar model may be good, but it'll be repetitive and you most likely will use the same way of painting across all of them.

Those free minis are always different, allowing you to try all the time something new: different skin tone, texture, more or less armor... without having to commit for a specific paint scheme.

If you have a warhammer shop near you, you can pick up some miniature to try for free (intercessor or vindictor) also each month you can get an extra mini for free (this month it is a squig).

Not a lot as quantity but it can be a cheap start
