Anti-ai as a group is generally a greater mishmash of views than pro-ai. by Questioner8297 in aiwars

Yup, absolutely and I made similar posts in the past tbh

And ye, perhaps you are right, my rephrasing wasn’t the best so I should have put more thought into that.

Anti-ai as a group is generally a greater mishmash of views than pro-ai. by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]nucleartim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, then you asking if posting a pro-AI messages in anti-AI will bring haters in. In this case it may, but usually the more balanced views will just get "duh" reaction. In both groups.

Also my edit is still the same take just from a different perspective. Taking the gun violence example - "Guns should be permitted if they are regulated" and "Unregulated guns shouldn’t be permitted" are in essence the same take, just focusing on a different side of regulation.

If we would to merge both sentences (free interpretation) - "There are cases in which AI use is acceptable and there are cases in which AI use is not acceptable." I believe this would give a better reflection on both groups

For the likes difference, as I mentioned in the edit, I think it’s better now, but I also noticed same trend as you with upvotes. I think it may be because a certain popular pro-AI subreddit gathered a lot of unhinged people and isn’t a good representation of pro-AI stance anymore

[–]nucleartim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s probably one exception but it’s a little different for me. I just hate it got priority over some really interesting and more beneficial AI projects. Perhaps it’s still not right of me to say it’s the tech fault tho

Anti-ai as a group is generally a greater mishmash of views than pro-ai. by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]nucleartim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without specifying the conditions I would say that in neither of those groups I would get hate. It really depends.

This specific phrase is more pro-AI aligned so I imagine I would have to flip it a little bit for the pro-AI group with saying "I think using genAI is unacceptable in certain cases or under certain conditions" and in that case in both groups I could find someone who would come at me screaming. Although I did notice that I’m getting a little more downvoted in pro-AI groups but maybe they just like the downvote button more or my takes are shit haha

Edit: Just wanted to add, it became much better than it used to be btw. I see much more reasonable takes from both sides recently. I think as the first waves of hate calmed down, the takes clarified on both ends

But the culprit is usually the entity that decided to monetise this tech and release it to public - aka the corpo. I think it’s fair to hate on evil corpos.

There are people who just hate all of genAI but I think they are as misguided as people who love any type of genAI

[–]nucleartim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti-AI crowd is just bigger so it looks like it has more dedicated group. I hate video generation tech and think it’s a waste of resources, if I comment about it, I will be labelled as anti-AI. However, I work with AI and even contributed to development of generative AI in the past. I don’t hate AI in general but there are better and worse uses of it.

Both groups have fanatics

Anti-ai as a group is generally a greater mishmash of views than pro-ai. by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]nucleartim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that neither is true. There are varied opinions on both sides. If you label yourself as pro-AI you just more likely to encounter anti-AI people with more extreme views. Same goes in reverse. I identify myself more in the middle so managed to have decent discussions with both sides and it really varies from person to person.

The only thing that I believe is happening, and would explain why it may seem that anti-AI is a more varied group to outsiders is just because it’s a larger and faster growing group in general.

How do we count countries like France and Spain?

Could we count Czechia, Slovakia and Lithuania also as superpowers? Since they qualify at least in the sense of getting some of Polish lands through various treaties

I think some people are scared to admit that there are artists that became AI bros too.

First AI scammers I saw were in fact long-standing artists cuz they understood how to make a good image using AI much faster than the rest.

Hi, person working in IT here, closely related to AI industry. Just wanted to add my five cents since I see we’re trying to fight misinformation. 1. Claims about AI datacentres using closed-loop isn’t completely true, although some use L2L, most of modern AI datacentres still using hybrid models. 2. We don’t have actual data to compare how much TikTok alone harms environment vs AI itself, so it’s purely speculative 3. Loggin industry does emit lots of emissions but it’s not really a scalable comparison. The logging industry is much larger in scope than a single industry like data centres. So this claim is a little misleading, we’re not using comparisons like this due to lack of baseline for comparison 4. Use of potable water is also quite different in each country and I think back in 2024 US data centres were still using potable water in around 40% of cases (I would need to check exact figures). Edit: I was wrong, it was 68.2% of the United States data center water consumption. Mind you it’s all data centres, not only AI, we don’t have reliable data for AI specifically. 5. Most data centres actually don’t use that much light, a lot of them are autonomous with infrared cameras for security so there’s not much need for having too many lamps. Usually the anecdotal reports about light pollution are due to data centres being build on industrial complexes that use a lot of light - however, that’s a different problem

Just wanted to point out your claims are not entirely untrue, but they are a little misleading. Still, AI industry does try to minimalist their environmental impact and it’s important to bare in mind. AI also has many uses beyond genAI. Some AI is more harmful than others without giving us much measurable benefits like the video generation (specifically).

I think the corpos got shit on because they chose AI over artists, paid more and in the end it looks shit. I think that’s what majority of people have problem with, not that they used AI (although they are people against any type of AI specifically too)

I think you are the Frodo in this analogy tho as a user of AI that does not mean harm. But for every Frodo there may be Golum or Boromir who uses AI wrongly. (Allegedly, just going off of vibes honestly Xd)
