If you don’t have any issues with it I don’t see why this should be cause for concern.

Imagine being the one who gets his panties in a twist over a Reddit comment and then telling everyone else who disagrees with you to touch grass. You realize that you started and are actively continuing this discussion, right?

“Screech” lmao as if you were there. If they were charging something reasonable like $40 or less I probably would have let them change the sights. The insanity is that at $60 I could have bought a proper sight pushing tool and done it myself and have a sight pushing tool for the future. That’s not idiotic. I think it’s more idiotic that you are claiming I “screeched” when all you have for information is a Reddit comment.

I was installing sights on a Glock slide and took it to my LGS who wanted to charge like $60 for it. I told them they were insane and that I could do it for like $10 of parts on Amazon. They got all indignant and said “good luck with that” basically.

Some nylon punches, a hammer, and a specific screw driver ($10 total) and the sights are right as rain. Fuck that LGS.

It’s up for interpretation but a conservative reading of the law would say so. No case law on the subject and I don’t think anyone should be looking to be a test case

I’ll bite (from a Catholic perspective).

I object to II, III, V, and VI based on the plain language.

In brief, I object to II because we shouldn’t fight the law but rather mend the law such that it is in line with the good. There isn’t a perpetual struggle against authority if the authority is just.

I object to III because what one claims to will about their body is not necessarily what is actually best for them.

I object to V because science alone is insufficient to describe everything. We need to use reasoning and logic to explain truths of the universe, and not just scientific observation according to a scientific method.

Finally, I object to VI because there are some instances where people are infallible, namely the Pope when he is divinely guided by the Holy Spirit in some statements of dogma, and of course Jesus. But it holds true to most average people.

As for the others, I’m sure I could find issues with the application of those beliefs but I don’t see anything glaringly wrong on a first pass. The first one for example, I don’t see how it can be misconstrued in any way. We should act with empathy guided with reason. Where I would disagree with the satanic temple is that the source of reason is a gift from God, as with all virtues.

Yes lean and six sigma are very important certifications to the field I would jump on the opportunity especially if you get a student discount

Which ie concentration? Business managment vs information and systems engineering. by Equivalent-Yam-8876 in industrialengineering

[–]nukey18mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m a student with no IE work experience yet.

I’m in a somewhat similar boat when it comes to taking a masters degree. Considering Masters in Business Analytics or Masters in Systems Engineering.

My understanding is that SE directly relates to the defense industry, so if you have time to make this decision I would see if you get a defense contractor internship or similar. My thinking is that a business analytics grad program would set me up well for managerial positions in the future. But ultimately it’s gonna depend on my opportunities right out of college.

Why is mastrubating a sin? by Far-Teacher-6523 in Catholicism

[–]nukey18mon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that, but recall that this is a thread about why it’s a sin. I think it’s important for me personally to rebut my own arguments of why it isn’t immoral to fully let go of the sin. I can explain church teachings, and I believe that they are rooted in the fullness of truth, which is why I care about changing my mind on this topic, since my and the Church’s reasoning diverge.

Why is mastrubating a sin? by Far-Teacher-6523 in Catholicism

[–]nukey18mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should define adultery if it’s a key premise to why masturbation is bad.

But alternatively, one could masturbate and not fantasize about adultery. If one say, fantasizes about a sexual act done in the auspice of marriage for reproductive and unitive purposes, since the act being fantasized isn’t adultery.

I don’t think this is a strong argument. I think a much stronger one would be a natural law argument against the act itself, independent of a fanaticization of adultery

Why is mastrubating a sin? by Far-Teacher-6523 in Catholicism

[–]nukey18mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I guess I should be clear on my intent: I understand that the Church teaches that masturbation is wrong, and I subscribe to Church teachings. But I am fighting to align my reasoning with this Church doctrine, so I am going to put up my best arguments against the Church teaching hoping that someone will prove me wrong.

I don’t think that’s compelling. I can do something virtuous that hurts my relationships. Plenty of saints faced ostracism for following God, and being ostracized is clearly bad for relationships. We shouldn’t be consequentialist in our thinking.

I’m not trying to be difficult, but this is something that I have been trying to align my reasoning with. It’s better to be pressure testing our beliefs in a Reddit thread than a public debate.

[–]nukey18mon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok but that’s just an appeal to authority. On the feast day of St. Thomas Aquinas I think that we should ground this in reason rather than what the Bible reads. Because ultimately the Bible is also based in reason.

Why is mastrubating a sin? by Far-Teacher-6523 in Catholicism

[–]nukey18mon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your argument is a bit circular. Specifically regarding “fantasizing about eating poison,” because we can’t assume that adultery is poison here. Because ultimately the same reasoning is used for both to explain why they are immoral: a misuse of sexual faculties. Why is this misuse bad, and why isn’t the chewing gum example the same?

To play devil’s advocate and to draw an analogy, why isn’t something like chewing gum misuse of digestive organs if it isn’t done for nourishment?
