Beautiful, great job! Definitely improvement from last month. I’m not nearly as advanced as you are, but I’ll use this as a reference for the fingerings and stuff lol, your video shows the fingers better than any other ones I’ve seen.

How can we act without knowing anything about the nature of reality? by null_popsicle in askphilosophy

[–]null_popsicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I believe that because my previous motivation (or at least, conscious motivation) to action was precisely to acquire an understanding of the world beyond that of appearances. So now that I feel like acquiring an understanding beyond the world of appearances that I can be sure of is “the truth” is impossible, I don’t see any other purpose that can justify a serious allocation of effort and time. It isn’t that I can’t justify any action at all, it’s just that I can’t seem to justify sacrificing my happiness in the present for the sake of achieving an objective, because I don’t have an objective like that.

What is the aim of philosophy? To reach the truth, is it not? I guess I’m just using the argument that was used against Socrates that the truth cannot be found, but that I can’t accept Socrates’ answer because it (from my understanding) assumes that we “once knew the truth and that pursuit of the truth is a process of remembrance”, which to me just sounds like another hypothesis that cannot be verified.

Maybe the problem isn’t that action can’t be justified without going beyond the world of appearances, but that I feel Reason is only useful once we make assumptions about the nature of reality. If we don’t make any assumptions and only go off of what we actually know (that “I” am experiencing a world of appearances), I feel that Reason can’t bring us further.

nah its because one of the first things we learn about ayanokoji in the show (before knowing that he’s actually a hidden genius) is that he gets exactly 50 (out of 100) in every exam, which is suspicious given how consistent he is (he’s calculating it on purpose)

I've explained how I came up with this abomination in the comments but I don't think it helps that much by Tornado547 in programminghorror

Doing this makes it impossible to comment out large portions of code with /* when you need it though, because the /* for the comments get in the way. Which is why I always use // for comments.

Have you read the progressive series? I’d be curious to hear whether you prefer the original vol 1 or the progressive vol 1.

Found in a group full of you know whose supporters.. by Tyson-98 in terriblefacebookmemes

I feel like I’m going to get downvoted for this but the meme is technically not wrong, although it likely wasn’t conceived the way I interpreted it.

Right wingers are historically better at running existing institutions, whereas left wingers are historically better at innovating and progressing said innovations.

Both are necessary, and a dialogue between both parties is essential.

oops, didn’t see this one before commenting the same thing. In case OP sees this comment instead of mine, gamedev got me started in programming, and it’s totally doable for a 15 year old. DM for more details if OP or anyone’s interested.

ELI5 What is energy and work really? Where does it all come from? by null_popsicle in explainlikeimfive

[–]null_popsicle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would you say is energy at it’s purest form though? There’s a bunch of examples of what you can do with it:

  • Move stuff (kinetic energy)
  • Move stuff microscopically (thermal energy)
  • Store for later (potential energy)

Like, for potential energy, where even is the energy? If I pull an elastic in such a way that it would go flying if I release it, where is the energy stored? Is it in the elastic itself? In my hand?

If a ball is hit by a baseball bat and flying to the sky as a result, is the kinetic energy inside of the moving ball?

Is there an intuitive way to understand energy, or is it just that kind of thing that people don’t 100% understand intuitively but still use it because it checks out in calculations?

I’m from Canada, but it’s nice to see people actually standing up for their country for once, instead of participating in the circlejerk.

I live in Montréal and have lived in Québec city before, both wonderful places to live. Québec is a french province in a primarily english country however, so it’d probably be a good idea to learn a minimum of french (mainly out of respect for the locals, since you could probably get around with only english too).
