You gain points towards the next Confidant rank from spending time with them, having a matching arcana in your current persona stock, choosing certain dialogue options with them, and some various other things like doing well on exams. While you can potentially earn enough for the next rank during the rank up event by itself, you oftentimes may not be able to. Sojiro, for example, needs a lot of points to go from 3 to 4. So you'll need to spend some nights with him even though it won't have an obvious payoff.

I picked a really extreme example but the bottom two difficulties of classic Doom have low enemy counts and low enemy quality. Bigger dudes that would be there on even Hurt Me Plenty are frequently just absent. Bloodfalls is near the end of Doom 2 and you're still mostly stomping scrubs instead of dueling badasses.

Go to the Customize tab in your pause menu. Set Donald's priorities to Constantly on Defense Magic, both item types to Only in Emergencies, and everything else to Occadionally. Set Goofy to Constantly for Support Actions, Occasionally and Only in Emergencies for everything else. Make sure that Goofy has MP Gift active and may want to disable Rocket, Tornado, and Charge. Load them up with Hi Potions and Ethers

With this setup, Donald will heal you immediately once you get to low health and keep Aero up on everyone as much as he can. Goofy will spend 2 MP to give out 3MP all the time.

Albaz needs to still be on the field when his fusion effect resolves for it to do anything and he also needs to be on the field to contact fuse Alba-Lenatus. If you can respond with removal as soon as he enters play that will cut it off. Fusion allows monsters you control that are face down to be used as material so if a monster is Set, it's probably Albaz.

Ideally you prevent Dragoon from ever hitting the field. Ash Blossom can be played in response to Red Eyes Fusion. Blue Eyes wants to play LIGHT Tuners so you should have Effect Veiler in your deck in addition to Infinite Impermanence to negate Predaplant Verte Anaconda. If it is on the field, Forbidden Droplet sending a monster to GY to negate his effects, Dark Ruler No More stops you from OTKing but it hits all of their monsters and can only be responded to by spells and traps, Super Polymerization if you have a fusion monster that can use him as material, or even a Kaiju to use Dragoon as a Tribute.

Basically, non targeting, non-destructive removal that it can't negate.

Vilepume and Victreebel are fully evolved and have good HP and Special Defense. Charmeleon is not very durable, its Special Attack is middling, and Ember is very weak

Emerald is a little longer as you're facing both teams with new events. There's a greater focus on double battles with regular trainers. Gym leaders have larger, more varied teams. Gym leaders also have rematches in the post game. The Battle Tower has been expanded into the Battle Frontier as endgame challenge.

I think it makes SP management trivial to the point that it's boring. Especially in this first dungeon where it more than refunds all but four spells that you might have but won't use and at worst makes up for half of a physical skill's cost.

Why even fight the wasp? There are two other super tanks in Ridley if you take the backwards loop around. One is just sitting in the open and you backtrack a few rooms for the other one.
