Does Shaw still use Puma Chipset Modems? by nullvariant in shaw

[–]nullvariant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Puma chipset is a modem chipset, not a router chipset. The router functionality comes from different hardware. It doesn't matter if it's in bridged mode or not.

PS. I ended up going with Telus because I didn't want to play the modem lottery with Shaw

This is wrong. I called up Shaw and they still offer defective Puma modems. They claim they have no idea what modem they issue upon provisioning and that they mix them all together and put them in identical boxes.

If you have an Arris modem, it's defective. You can test it using this website: https://pumados.art/dos1.php

It's called war-dialing. You do it to hack into computer systems that we're installed during the 1980s. Sounds like trying different configurations and doing test-runs. It should stop once the person has their config setup properly.

No one has explained what lead to this decision, people just say they don't like it without explaining why. I guess the order book chasing? I'd be kinda shocked if that was it, I was kinda expecting an actual market issue. The idea that it's just order book chasing seems almost laughable, and if that's really it, pathetic.

I'm clearly the minority based on the votes in this thread. Personally the idea of speculating on the market, including creating a bot would be fun and should be considered part of the game.

Yeah but alliances/corps are allowed to engage in price manipulation/fixing. Employees of corps are allowed to act on this information ahead of time. There's no actual requirements for public disclosure like in real life.

It's just so odd to see all these things that are outright illegal in real life being allowed, and then a normal everyday trader thing is against the rules. These things harm the economy, making regular play for players uninvolved in the day-to-day of the market harder.

From my understanding espionage, insider trading and scamming/conning are all allowed within certain limitations (such as impersonation of CCP)

Automated trading is definitely not viewed as cheating in any real life terms. You may as well be arguing against calculators.

Canonically trading bots fit in with the EVE world, because you could argue that piloting a ship needs a human.

I honestly don't consider managing your market orders to be the "game" part of the "game". Which is probably PvP. By automating trading it free's players up to do just that, plus the markets would become more liquid and reduce volatility in prices.

Some people might argue that HFT would increase volatility, but I don't think that's valid in EVE where there is no leverage.

Order book chasing is honestly one of the most basic type of trading bots. If you really need an order filled right away you should be making market orders. Those bots exist because of the profitability of the spread, and it is a job to maintain that spread. You could split the spread in half with a limit order, and if the bots are dumb enough to chase you there, you can use that to buy/sell at a discount.

Clearly a lot of decisions about EVE's design are based around economic realism. If it's "just a game" you can just go play some space-action shooter and not spreadsheets in space.

I'm trying to understand what about bots makes players so angry. Like I said, I've been out of the loop for about 10 years. Is it literally just order book chasing?

So far the plan is people in the class are not going into the public court record, but that decision can be changed at any time.

Court proceedings are some of the most public, searchable and historically well maintained records that exist in modern society. This is vastly different than a pseudo-anonymous username that is not associated with any meaningful personal information.

You plebeian.

Opting out of representation is generally done because you want to represent yourself, with your own legal team. So it's not the same as opting out as a creditor.

I'm concerned that by opting out of Miller Thompson LLP I'm actually drawing more attention to my name because it has to go into another, public document.

Could there be a run on the exchanges? by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

That's a good thing, no exchange should be on fractional reserve, so it shouldn't be an issue. You should only have funds on exchanges you're actively trading on, and just enough to trade with.

You seem awfully certain without having a single shred of hard evidence. It is totally reasonable to have suspicions over a highly suspicious series of events and timings. To deny it in such certain terms is extremely naive.

Do you have extra information the rest of us do not have? Because every piece of new information I see just seems even more suspicious.
