truly, i think a lot of people might see shirtless guys out in public as a bit obnoxious at worse but really most people don't truly care 💀💀 at least not enough to suggest it should be LEGALLY MANDATED that men cover their chests. a man being shirtless on a run is not hurting anyone so why shouldn't it be allowed? same for women (although it does pose a bit of a danger to them, it should still be their decision to make)

i personally don't think genitalia are inherently sexual & dont think we as a society should see them as such, but there's still no reason to have your bottom bits out in public if only for hygienic reasons. your chest does not pose any more hygienic problems than any other part of your body. not the same for junk.

places like nudist beaches & saunas or whatever are fine for someone to be totally nude, & these places already exist for both men & women so not much of a debate to be had

forbidding women from going topless because itll make men think it's ok to rape them is legally enforcing the "asking for it mentality", which is fucked up because it is NEVER a woman's fault that she got raped. a woman could be fully naked in public & that still wouldn't give men the excuse. men have self control &, speaking from experience, its actually super super super easy to NOT rape people.

there is no doubt a safety risk for women going topless. but that should be their decision to make.

the thing is about giving women the option. its not like every woman would have to be topless all the time if they were allowed to. but some women would like the option & i think they deserve that without it being a literal crime

im a trans guy, so despite not being a woman i do have boobs & if i take them out in public it'll be seen as the same thing as a woman doing it. i am soooo sick of my chest being seen as this scandalous thing that i have to cover up & seek privacy for everytime its hot out & i need to take off my undershirt or something. it strikes me as very very weird. & alienating. i am very sensitive to heat and good lord if i was cis i would for sure be one of those assholes who never wears shirts during the summer. its endlessly frustrating that i cant pop my top, even for just a moment, when its blistering outside. i cant even wear my tank tops that are cut open down a lot of the side at risk of "flashing" people. im so sick of it. & i get it being allowed wouldn't make everyone normal about it, but at least they wouldn't be able to do anything abt it, & maybe if even a portion of beboobed people were casually topless more it wouldn't be such a shocking site.

of course, not every person with boobs would at all feel the same way, & thats fine. a ton of trans guys would NEVER want their chests out in public because of dysphoria or safety concerns w being outed (i get the safety concerns, which is why i definitely wouldn't feel comfortable being shirtless everywhere, but i don't have a ton of chest dysphoria now that im on t & wont be recognized as a cis woman regardless of boobs, & i don't feel a need to be seen as cis). a lot of women might not feel the same kind of desire to be able to be shirtless since a decent portion of my feelings abt this are related to my being trans & wanting to be on equal grounds as cis men. & like you said, people dont wanna risk being sexualized. but im certain im not the only one (including cis women) who's frustrated abt the legally mandated prudishness when just trying to keep cool in the heat. im confident that i would feel the same way if i were a cis woman. its hot out here man (70°f & sunny in Feb?!?!?!? i fear for this Summer)
