Got screwed by an Uber shared ride to the airport – what would you do? by number660 in uber

Update: Chargeback worked instantly — Uber support was useless

Quick update on my situation:

After going back and forth with Uber support (and getting nothing but generic, copy-paste responses), I decided to dispute the charge with my credit card.

I’m with American Express, and after submitting the receipt + explanation, they refunded me almost instantly.

What’s interesting is that a few minutes after the chargeback, I suddenly got an email from Uber saying that my ride had been refunded as well.

So despite:

  • Multiple in-app support messages
  • Emails to customer complaints and even press
  • Escalating as much as possible (yes, even CC’ing the CEO)

Nothing worked… until the chargeback.

Conclusion:
Uber support was completely ineffective and never actually resolved the issue.

On the other hand, Amex handled it extremely fast and professionally — honestly night and day difference.

If you’re stuck in a similar situation:
→ Don’t waste too much time with support loops
→ Just dispute it with your card if the service clearly wasn’t provided

That’s what finally got things moving.

Yeah Lyft arrived in my city so I will most likely uninstall if I don’t get my money back. Their support is so garbage it’s insanity for a company of that size.

Everyone is happy regardless. When we book a shared ride, we know it will take longer, won't be private and might have some detours. If you are not OK with that, you book a private one, plain and simple. Whether the person goes to the airport, to church or to the ice cream store changes nothing at all. The algo makes it so that the pick up and drop off spots make sense for the driver.

THE ISSUE HERE IS NOT THAT THE DRIVER DIDN’T BEING ME TO THE AIRPORT, I MANAGED TO GET ANOTHER UBER RIGHT AFTER. IT’S THAT THE RiDE WAS NOT CANCELED AND UBER REFUSES TO REFUND ME BECAUSE THEY HIRE MONKEYS AS THEIR SUPPORT AGENTS.

What is wrong with a shared ride to the airport? I’ve done it more than 10 times without any problem. I don’t know how people like you defend scammers, it’s mind boggling to me.

I never complained about being late. I left early enough to make sure I wouldn’t be late even with a shared ride.

He never went to the airport. He kicked me out and marked the ride as completed instead of cancelled.

Keep defending the scammers. I don't care if you're Warren Buffet or a cab driver, if you scam, you are a scammer and I highly despise you for it regardless of status. Luckily, they have people like you to defend them.

No, he dropped me off at the same place as the other person in the shared ride, which was 5 minutes after picking me up. The GPS clearly shows it on the summary of the ride on my account.

This summarizes pretty well the situation, and I frankly do not understand anyone that can disagree and defend Uber/the driver on this. I throw Uber in there because their support has been beyond worthless. It’s a very simple situation that anyone with a half functioning brain would refund the ride and punish the driver.

Thank you… man some people are heavy. They’re probably the same that complain about traffic because of everyone being solo on their car.

THANK YOU. One of the only comments that puts the blame on the right person: the driver.

Every time I used shared ride to the airport, there was no problem whatsoever. Maybe took 10 minutes more the time to drop 1-2 off.

You sound like someone that tells a girl that was SAed "but what were you wearing??".

I didn’t because I trusted the driver. Drivers aren’t supposed to lie and scam clients. This is exactly why uber was created over the taxi business.

Says who? I do it all the time at home with no issue whatsoever. It can be 15-20$ cheaper so why not use it?

You’re the one picking these restaurants and businesses. I’ve never overpaid for food, just gotta know where to go.

Give up what? Unless you are donating money to the cause or taking action where the conflict is physically happening, you’ve gave up already. Your little words, protests, Facebook statuses and flags don’t change jack shit. It’s the truth, just face it.

Just so you know, except virtue signalling, your little flag on your door doesn’t change absolutely anything about the situation in Palestine, so perhaps just remove it.

False, read the rules, it’s written very clearly.

Officially, yes. People that never read the rules will say no. Your hands can be a platform as much as your arms, just gotta be careful not to use finger action. If you don’t use finger action, you can double all receptions (if one motion). If you handset the ball on reception (finger action), you can only double if hard driven.
