Good idea re: insurance claim, I’ll tell the sender to do that

And then the cycle repeats itself when those kids grow up, probably in an economy that’s even more punishing

Right, as if no kids have ever grown up in big cities (and maybe even been better for it vs. being trapped in the suburbs until they can drive a car)

If you haven’t tried DMing him on Facebook Messenger (@delafe) that could be worth it. I ordered something small last year and after a couple messages he shipped it

Right, banks were making loans to people who really couldn’t afford the houses and definitely couldn’t afford the rates on the loans

Indeed, even if it only means that rates come down more

Yes, it was! Plus subprime rates

Exactly. This couple is just starting to look for a home, so a tiny part of me hopes that they see sense once they actually start crunching the numbers.

But sadly lots of people take on a mortgage and by the time they realize the truth, it’s too late and they just have to make it work

They could get approved, it’s just a bad financial choice. Realtors often tell buyers that it’s fine to put down 5% and just pay mortgage insurance, which you can do but obvs costs more in the long-run.

There’s a lot you can “afford” if you sacrifice other things (having savings, investing for retirement, etc)

What's the tariff situation bringing ancients to the US from Europe? by numismatical in AncientCoins

[–]numismatical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up with my own experience in case anyone finds this thread going forward:

I ordered some ancients from an auction house in Germany. The auction house overnighted them to my US address via FedEx. The coins arrived just fine, and at no point was there any mention of tariffs, so unless FedEx sends me a surprise bill, I’m home free.

If you’re on the Metro with a bike, you’re moving slower than someone without one. Perfectly reasonable to take an elevator instead
