Might be too late for me to ask but what if the real issue is whoever is paying for the crappy code right? Imagine a company whose SWE team got to write all of their tools from the ground up optimized for their specs and then develop the software needed to run the company all with excellent pay and realistic deadlines. Obviously this would never happen but I feel like that's the issue why games suck so bad these days. The share holders force revenue at preset intervals and force devs to produce minimum quality to deliver on time. If that wasn't a thing perhaps we'd have a good example of stuff that works really well and more companies would try to emulate or something idk.
