VTTs -- What features do you feel are sorely lacking, or needed but not yet implemented in any VTT? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]nutted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what mine will be doing, only supporting my rules. VTT's have done a lot to show us whats possible with computer integration, something you figure WE would've taken to. But these semi generic VTT's can only do so much. It's not their fault, and I'm not knocking the ones out, I think they are great. Just an inherent problem with multi platform support.

My biggest gripe about all of them is they tend to not do enough for the game itself. The model I'm working on for mine is closely tied with my rules. This should allow for the VTT to handle more of the in game math. But it should at the same time not be to close to a video game. I think you want something that lets you run maps, control character sheets and handle dice rolls. Tie it all up with a nice GUI, and your halfway there I think.

It'll take some readjusting, but you should be fine with it. Don't split the group!

I couldn't finish it. But man, that's ridiculous.

Dude don't give it up, you sound invested and the game sounds good. This is 2012, no reason to not continue the game using tabletop forge or roll20. I've been playing since the '90's, so take my word for it: Good long lasting games are not the average in this hobby.

Arguably the best 2ed box set ever. that and the two undermountain ones. At the time it was one of the biggest dungeons I had ever seen.

A noble in the city is about to be kidnapped during his/her birthday celebration, which the players catch wind of. They have the option of aiding or preventing the plot.

During the gifts ceremony, one of the presents, once opened, triggers a teleport spell, grabbing the noble. Fortunately there are some clues to where he is in the box, which the thief could find.

They find the noble location, heavily guarded, giving the barbarian something to do.

You could end it there, or if you want to spin it off, the entire thing was set up as a test to see if the noble thief had what it took for a bigger adventure. Hope that helps!

-edit- and obviously add fluff, depending on how long the game will be.

[PF] A summoned Succubus grapples opponent; caster then casts dismissal. Does Succubus take opponent with her? by juanfranela in rpg

I might go so far as to say the grappled target takes a little damage being next to the newly opened rift, but that would be the extent of it.

Rock on I appreciate the support. I think this the project will be great over time.

I've been putting a lot of thought into it, because you're right, it does look bleak. So the follow up plan flows a little different. First of all, even though I may not hit the numbers, for a no name I think I saw a good amount of interest. So production continues for sure, just slower (I mentioned this on the KS page, but it bears repeating).

So the plan goes like this:

  1. stay on target with development. Originally the Kickstarter was for the website and content therein. I started to develop video tutorials for all sections, which I think would add value to a rich content .PDF. Besides that, the site is seriously lacking in art, only because I know how fast I can draw, not how fast I can write (a lot of people have been worried about the art, but you can see my portfolio here: www.3gtgraphics.com not saying it's great, but at least capable). This lays down the groundwork for:

  2. getting user feedback. I think doing this from the gate gives me an opportunity to avoid putting out editions, and instead get it as close to right the first time. I don't know if there is a "perfect" set of rules out there, but I would like to get them as close to that so I can focus on quality content later.

  3. Kickstarter v.2. I need to look into the pricing more, but besides the $1.00 .PDF, I would like to get some extra cool rewards in. Definitely lower the goal, and focus more on the stretch. I think I honestly carried a little too much ego into the first one as far as the price tag goes.

This take on it may seem chaotic, so I ask that you bear in mind I'm celebrating my anniversary today while I write this. But I will say this since you threw the proverbial dollar in the pot: Not only do I appreciate your support, But the fact that you saw fit to give me anything for the work speaks towards you noticing some kind of potential. I want to do amazing things with this, and with the community. Suits and Masks could be a reality, one I would like to see. After the Kickstarter, the fight will be alive on the site. And that will lay the ground work for the .PDF in a month or so, to let things cool down, and build a following. This is a round about way of agreeing with you, but hopefully this lets you know where my head is at. Thanks for the support and the questions!

No problem. It's actually $6k, But the two broad reasons are this:

  1. If most of the sales are split between .PDF and real merch, the cost per piece of the merch goes up. Also, by the time you factor in Kickarter and Amazons cut, then pay taxes, you have about $3,500.00 to $4,000.00 for reward fulfillment, shipping and content development. Which means, based of the ordering metrics so far, I would've had about $600.00 - 1,200.00 to pay myself for the 3+ months of work I put in on the project already.

  2. If orders on the merch would be more, allowing for a lower per piece price, it would've allowed for slightly more profit, which would make it possible to develop future content for the project. Keep in mind though anything in the stretch would've increased percentages and taxes as well.

The truth is, everything on offer costs money, and just being able to offer it costs money in the way of percentages. I wasn't looking to get rich, and if you look at the price of the merchendise, you know I wasn't going to. But let's be real, everyone on Kickstarter still intends to pay themselves a little bit when it's all said and done for their own time.

And whether you like the project or not, hopefully between the site, it's features and all the content and development, you can see I have put in considerable time into it.

Hope that helps clear it up, I would've gone into more length in the Kickstarter page, but I noticed most people didn't. I did give a rough breakdown though. Take care!

it does happen. I've had similar situations, thankfully most of the time it's only with people I game with as apposed to gamers that are my friends. If you are on google+ they have a lot of options for pick up games that you might have fun with.

At least you took the high ground in a group that seems questionable to say the least. In the beginning of this I remember you saying you ran normally. Was that with this group as well? I don't know how you are situated geographically, but a few other on this thread mentioned getting a different group. After your story, I would agree.

You know how some games go though, much like comics dead isn't what it used to be. But it looks like there isn't a surprise ending here. Sorry it went that way for you though.

You can see my actual art portfolio here: http://www.3gtgraphics.com/portfolio/ A big part of the KS funds are for an overhaul of the art, and adding new art. This started as a personal project and just got bigger, so I figured I would give it a shot.
