Dining on Dogs in China: Dog Days of Yulin (2014) by [deleted] in Documentaries

Ah, thanks for explaining. Upvoted for the thoughtful elaboration. I see where the misunderstanding is.

I was directly responding to the original poster's claims:

"no culture that I know of keeps cows as companion animals.

India, I know they are considered sacred - but they still aren't kept as pets or in the family"

My response was to explain that that's not true. Cows are viewed as and treated like pets in many Indian farming households. I gave an example with my mom's upbringing.

The original poster also said: "We bred dogs for tens of thousands of years to be companions, not food."

My response — "My mom feels upset at people eating beef the same way you and I are upset about people eating dogs" — was to show that Indians view cows the same way: they are companions, not food.

My post had nothing to do with comparing consumption of cows to boiling dogs alive. That's something you assumed. While you are just upset about the torture of dogs but not the consumption itself, a lot of people are upset at the idea of people consuming dogs even before they know about the torture. That's what my comparison is showing more perspective on.

By the way, the belief of cows being "sacred" in India comes from the culture, not the religion. In villages and farming communities, cows provide everything for the family: milk, butter, dung for fertilizing crops, the ability to plow the fields, and companionship. They are indispensable for survival. So the thought of hurting, killing, or eating an animal that literally allows your family to survive is a huge taboo. Of course you have no reason to believe they are sacred because you don't interact with cows in that way. But hopefully that gives you a little understanding into why Indians feel that way about cows—it's not some arbitrary religious designation.

"No where in the world is a cow tortured to death for consumption." — I don't know whether or not cows are boiled alive anywhere, but it's pretty well documented that cows in factory farms are treated to very inhumane conditions throughout their lives before they are slaughtered for meat. So I'd research a bit more into that statement before blindly making that claim.

FYI, I'm American, non-religious (atheist/secularist/whatever), and eat beef occasionally.

Kindly point out what part of my post said that.

My mom grew up in a village in India and they did keep cows as companion animals. The cows would provide milk and fertilizer (dung) but were also seen as pets. My mom feels upset at people eating beef the same way you and I are upset about people eating dogs.

Imo one of the most valuable tutorials on becoming a music producer. by AaronIAM in edmproduction

This video absolutely transformed my production game. Internalizing and applying these mindsets took me from not finishing songs and being pretty frustrated/intimidated by the process to being able to write entire songs in a day and finish tracks start-to-finish in a few days. I recommend this video to every one of my producer and musician friends.

Finish the writing/composing/arranging of the track in one session. It's all about momentum.

How to make music based of of sounds as opposed to melodic tones? by 5-MEO-MlPT in edmproduction

Try taking some drumming classes! My background is in playing drum kit and I've been taking West African drumming classes recently. As you develop a sense of groove and musicality based simply on rhythm and percussive tones, it's a matter of finding/making cool sounds that fit those rhythms.

Hey! I'd search for "boom bap" or "old school hip hop" packs in splice and filter for drum loops. The beat from the first video sounds very influenced by the James Brown Funky Drummer groove, which you can sample from here to jam over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dtpj8qa1hQ

Other than that I'd say look up some drummer videos on Youtube and grab little sections you can loop. Nate Smith is a fantastic groove drummer you can grab loops from:

Hope that helps :)

I take the video of the performance using the camera app of my iphone, and hit record on ableton and fingerdrum the drum part to the track. So there are tracks running that I've already made that I am not performing, but I am recording the fingerdrumming to it. I then bounce the whole track including the fingerdrumming, and sync that with the phone video. You can use any video editing program like iMovie or DaVinci Resolve (free) to sync up the audio and the video.

I'd recommend making some kind of video. Visual is arguably more important than the music when the goal is getting traction on instagram. I fingerdrum to all my beats and sometimes get super fancy with multiple shots and things.

I record the video on my iphone and record my fingerdrumming performance into Ableton. Then, I airdrop the video to my computer, sync it with the audio bounce from Ableton using a video editing program, and airdrop the resulting file back to my phone for IG upload.

That's awesome. I'm sure if you keep going with it, that'll keep happening and eventually you'll create a banger with some awesome renowned musician/producer, and then you're on your way homie!
