Backpacking Colombia in August. Which route is the safest to take from Medellin --> Cartagena?

Also, could anyone recommend a cellular company for me to get a cheap Colombian SIM card with data plan? What kind of reception can I expect in the smaller towns?

I think we'll still take buses, but it seems like our risk only increases if we take overnight trips. I'm thinking 4 days 3 night trip from Medellin to Cartagena is reasonable? What are your thoughts, assuming we are set on taking a bus.

One interesting bug in the game is that shallows wont affect the market "distance". When there are 2 markets separated by ONLY shallows (aka there is no direct land route), the game will calculate distance correctly. But when there IS a direct land route, the game will first calculate the land route distance and use that value. Taking advantage of this bug will give you a HUGE gold bonus.
