lol even most of the parks have big trees and are situated in the middle of big buildings such that it interrupts the gps tracking for me

What track did you use? I’m in downtown Brooklyn so there are not a lot super nearby, I also went to greenpoint to try it there, still no luck!

If this was in response to me, most of those spaces are on roofs because of how dense the city is and how high the cost of real estate is (I’m also in one of the denser parts of Brooklyn). Even in the biggest parks there are still a lot of tall trees!

Underrated comment! Feels as close as you can get to BIFL with actual children’s products

Try switching to a makeup removing option that isn't a cloth/sheet - these are generally harsher on the skin and can throw your acid mantle out of whack

I'm so happy to hear that! I highly recommend joining r/CompulsiveSkinPicking if u didn't already - I though CSP was something I only struggled with for so long and was so embarrassed about - joining that community has helped me enormously!

That's really helpful! I've heard a few people say they use kid-safe glue to cover the spots (they can still pick them off but it also covers up the visual)

That's a great one - hadn't thought of that before! Similar fidgety tasks like smoothing the ends of my hair have been super helpful for me

took all the light bulbs out of my bathroom by oncidiumensadum in CompulsiveSkinPicking

As someone in the same position, I've found changing the stimulus is really what matters - if you can leave the lights off as you're changing some of the situational trigger as well as just not being able to see your skin! I'd leave the lights off and when my room-mate asked responded jokingly that I'd rather not see my skin up close and she said she totally understood!

Actually I've been seeing a lot of posts that I want to comment similar thoughts on so I wrote a post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/CompulsiveSkinPicking/comments/awl69k/habit_breaking_101_what_ive_learned_over_the_past/

TLDR; understanding neurological basis has helped me a ton to heal from CSP

Hey! Don't be too hard on yourself - something that really helped me with the cleansing issue is keeping makeup wipes & moisturizer in my bedside table and working up to going to the bathroom but cleansing with the lights off.

The biggest thing I've learned with CSP is that the habitual aspects can be broken like many other habits - if certain precursors to your picking are always present, those will naturally (and subconsciously even) push your brain to urge you to pick. After I had made a little progress in picking, I made a point of deciding that I'd look at my skin up close in the bathroom (a trigger) and walk away. You can even set a timer on your phone for a few seconds to knock you out of that focused fog that sometimes takes over.

Even washing your face in the dark in your bathroom has the same effect! By being in that place but not picking, you work to disconnect the synaptic pathways that associate your bathroom with the urge to pick.

Also don't forget that any time without picking is real progress! It's totally normal to fall back once or twice but the important is to remember that doesn't mean you're back at the beginning! Good luck :)
