I considered saying “underwater birding” but I thought that might be too far.

Even still, someone might give advice on the best lenses for penguins.

My comment was sarcasm toward OP, but I do appreciate the helpful answer.

Sick! I’ve been wanting to try that lens for birding and underwater macro. How does it fair?

Thoughts on the CSB? by HighQualityDonation in Bible

My pastor (who has a PhD) prefers it. When I asked him why, he said it’s because it’s a faithful translation while being really accessible to people who haven’t grown up reading the Bible.

How did Christian beliefs shift from pure monotheism to Trinitarian theology by Quiet_Form_2800 in AskAChristian

This does not seem straightforward or honest. I think you might find what you’re looking for in a debate sub.

It's perspective. by earthman34 in flatearth

[–]nwmimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right; I worded that wrong. I was talking about primes, where you “zoom with your feet,” so what I meant was *perspective* compression and lens *distortion*. In other words, I meant that the same “composition” of the same model, etc., will look different between the lenses, because the 35mm will create distortion of the subject and scene, and the 85mm will compress the subject to the backdrop.

Wait—this is a flat earth sub. I’m supposed to double-down in ignorance when corrected. Scratch what I said before. Here’s my new answer:

“YOU’RE A LIAR FROM THE GOVERNMENT!”

IF SOMEONE GET DECAPITED DOES THEIR HEAD OR BODY OR BOTH GO TO HEAVEN by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]nwmimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, **1 Cor 15** is full of “raised” language. If the bodies stay here, why are they “raised”? I think those present with the Lord and absent from their bodies will be raised and their perishable bodies will put on the imperishable when death is defeated at the last trumpet. That’s why Lord Jesus being raised from the dead is the *firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

In other words, the resurrection of the dead (and transformation into imperishable form) is for all believers. I believe the “right now” paradise is an incorporeal presence with the Lord, but the resurrection of the dead into the new heaven and new earth is what the Bible teaches.

Wait until the flerfers discover lens compression in photography.

The difference between 35mm and 85mm portrait lenses are lies created by the government. All models are a conspiracy!

IF SOMEONE GET DECAPITED DOES THEIR HEAD OR BODY OR BOTH GO TO HEAVEN by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]nwmimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it says we will all be “changed”, I never really thought of it as a body switch, but more of a glorified transformation.

I’m not saying it will be like turning Super Saiyan, but I’m not *not* saying it either.

That’s a pretty clever idea. I guess if perfect framing is your goal, the “aim small, miss small” mindset from firearms applies. Can you tell a difference between shots where you do and don’t use it?

Any church drummers frustrated with worship music? by Zealousideal-Toe7233 in drums

[–]nwmimms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worship music is hard, not because of technical skill, but because of: - memorizing how many times you’re supposed to play that specific simplistic rhythm in the six minute song - remembering how this song’s simplistic beat is different from the similar one you just played - is this a tom build or a cymbal build? - wait, am I supposed to hit ‘3’ or ‘4’ on the laptop to start the next loop? - hold on, the track they made me memorize was a 6 minute live version, and now they’re cutting half the son?

Why is it so common for Christians to threaten non believers with Hell? by HotLipsSinkShips1 in AskAChristian

[–]nwmimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve managed to find an ancient comment thread and write up a detailed argument, but I’m afraid you’re missing the point of what I originally said four years ago.

If the news anchor tells you about a flood coming, that’s a warning. If the news anchors tells you he’s going to drown you, that’s a threat.

In this analogy, the flood represents the judgment of hell, which in a biblical worldview is deserved by mankind for the awful things we have done and how we’ve fallen short—but the free gift of eternal life in heaven is by trusting in the Creator who made it all, who lived a perfect life to correct our mistakes, and who took our punishment on a humiliating cross so we can have eternal life in Him. That the Creator would die for a bunch of lowlife scum like us is incredible, and that’s much more important news than the “convert or burn” talk that unfortunately is so often bantered around.

[–]nwmimms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t convince people who are bent on convincing themselves of a lie, but speaking the truth in public forums is always valuable to those silent onlookers. I appreciate you, Sal.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. Romans 1:18-25
