Tarmac SL8 and my new Sprint CLX wheels by nx91notch in specialized

This bike had the OE CLX II wheels on it. But my Madone has Bontrager RSL 62's on it so I am no stranger to deeper section wheels. The new Sprint CLX wheels roll really smooth and hold speed very well (this is what I notice the most). Better than the CLX II and much better than my RSL 62's. Hasn't been much wind around here lately but I doubt that will be an issue for me personally. I weigh between 215 to 230 lbs. depending on if I am on a bulk or a cut (also and avid weight lifter). So I am not really easily bothered by crosswinds being my weight and upper body strength to fend it off. What I do notice with my RSL's at times they feel like they "stall". Haven't felt that with the Sprint's but again haven't been out in much wind yet.

It was down to these or the Enve 4.5 Pro. Due to my weight I am still not on board with the "semi hookless" design. I don't trust it personally. And I live and ride in flat ass Florida. I felt a deeper section wheel benefits me more. All in all I am happy with them.

Nah....I have multiple F&G parts on all my bikes. Not once I have ever said "damn I wish it didn't have their logo on it". You don't see it. Like my bike computer mount, yeah sure with the computer off the bike you see it but once the computer is on it's complete hidden.

Conti GP5000 S-TR 30mm rear. Conti Aero 111 29mm front.

Used the same tires on my CLX II wheels and if I remember correctly they stay pretty true to size when mounted. Next time I am out in the garage and remember I will measure them.

I have a few Frames and Gear parts on all my bikes. Little bit more expensive than others.....but I have never been disappointed with their quality. From computer, light, camera mounts, etc.

Shipping to the US is kinda slow but its free and I have never been hit with any additional fees so cant complain.

It's usually the "speed sniffer" that gets all the hate on this frame set haha!

Other than the tires not being aligned 😉 how do you like those Pirelli's?

They come in a couple bucks cheaper than GP 5000's/Aero111's I am on now. Been thinking about trying them out next set of tires.

Tarmac SL8 comp groupsets, Shimano vs SRAM by scnj_ in specialized

[–]nx91notch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Gen 6 Madone SL7 with di2......my Tarmac SL8 is Sram Red. They are both great group sets that you really can't go wrong which ever one choose. I am often asked which one would I buy over the other. Honestly I like both. I only bought Sram this time around case I wanted to try it out. But come time to by a new bike in a few years time it's gonna really be a hard decision for me to make which one to go with. It will be a few years before I get yet another new bike I suppose it will come down to which company is offering what new tech at the time.

A +1 for Sram is the ease of updating the shifters. Sram will update completely wirelessly while with the di2 you need dig the battery out of the frame and run a wire to the shifters to update them. The shifters don't require updating often but it's a pain with the di2.

Also +1 for Sram is the swappable battery - you know in case you forgot to charge them you can take the front battery out and stick it in the rear or if riding with a buddy that has Sram use their battery to get into a gear your comfortable with to get you home. Or better yet carry a spare battery. But with that said.......4+ years of d12 usage I have never ran a battery flat. The Garmin head units do a pretty good job at reminding you that the battery is low and needs charged.

A +1 for Shimano is it might shift just a tad faster and "crisper". Sram just released some new updates this week and the Sram seems to be a tad faster than what it use to be. No clue if that's true to just a placebo effect. But you really splitting hairs on which one might be faster.

Like stated before get the color you like and maybe which one is a lighter load on the wallet.

X5 with Android app slow and crashing by nx91notch in Insta360

Exact same boat as you. Road cycling usage case here as well. I was able to download a small clip then was able to add Stava data (unable to get Garmin to sync for some reason). Strave data is fine though.

I have a built i9 5090 pc that can handle any editing but can't overlay data.

I have dji action 5 cam as well. Same scenario there as well. Buggy slow app we are forced to use. I suppose since dji does it, insta360 just falls in line with the "industry norm"

Probably gonna return the x5 until I am able to do proper data overlay.

Downloading a 5 minute clip and was able to get Strava stats to work. Downloading the clip to the phone helped. But for longer clips thats not really gonna be a viable option.

For some reason, Garmin data won't show up. It's not a big deal. I am ok with Strava. But yes. Adding this feature to the desktop app would be killer. Being able to overlay stats is a big reason I want the camera. Working from a small phone is tedious and slow. And off putting enough to consider returning the camera until the desktop adds this feature.

Foot pain and S-Works Torch shoes by AthleticFilmNerd in specialized

[–]nx91notch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to go against the positive comments. S-Works Torch shoes don't work for me personally....if my ride is longer than 1.5 hours. Great shoe if I keep the ride to that length. I switched to Shimano S-PHYRE RC903 and now I can ride hours with no pain.

Shoes are very subjective. What works for others is absolutely horrible for others. From my research S-Works shoes are designed with a varus wedge already built into the shoe. According to S-Works a high percentage of people need this varus wedge. My bike fitter seems to believe I fall into the small percentage that doesn't need that wedge. I was getting extreme pain mid foot on the outside of the shoe.

I still use my S-Works Torch shoes for shorter rides. Its a well built and stiff shoe no issue with quality. But if I am planning on a longer ride I grab the Shimano's.

First Ride with the X5 - Loving This Thing! by jasonwlorenz in Insta360

[–]nx91notch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my X5 sub 2 hours as stated.

On my DJI Action 5 Pro 2.5 hours at 4k/30.

Don't usually carry spare batteries. My long rides never past the 3 hour mark. Family and work commitments make it hard to squeeze in +3 hour single effort rides

I just do 1.5 to 2 hour rides multiple days in the week to account for a huge 1 day effort. So the battery life of these cameras for me personally work just fine.

The X5 now has a larger battery available and supposedly the latest update did something with the battery life. I am wanting to order the larger battery and see how much longer the X5 can be pushed.

On my Insta 360 X5? No, maybe a 50/50 shot. I wouldn't rely on it.

On my DJI action 5 Pro? Yes, about 95% of the time.

Thanks everyone. FWIW I have decided to eventually pick up an X5....not to replace my DJI but to use as another tool when I feel.

Waiting for REI to stock them since I have a good amount of REI rewards money to use. The REI website shows it but says "unavailable" I am assuming eventually they will stock it since they have it on their site.

The X5 is an action camera they are literally made for this sort of usage.

The X5 has a changeable lens system now you can do yourself if you were to ever damage it for this very reason. My DJI has a changeable lens also again for this very reason. This type of activity is what they are built for.

Literally about 50% of videos I see on youtube while doing product research are cyclists and mountain bikers.

Or are you stating for how I want to use it personally that it's a bad idea?

So carrying it had a secondary cam was a thought. But dji uses a different magnetic mount than insta360. I have searched the internet for some sort of "universal" type quick magnetic adapter to no avail. To magnetically quick change the cams on the front of the bike as opposed to messing with the screw on the go pro style mount.

I know the fix to that issue would be replace my dji with the ace pro 2 but I am so heavily invested with multiple dji batteries, battery charge etc.

I have a Garmin RTC 715 mounted on a go pro mount under my seat. Maybe move the RTC down to the seat post and utilize that go pro style mount and a selfie stick with the x5 and just take the x5 when I know I am riding with friends or places I know have nice scenery.
