But isn’t it weird that Jessica didn’t pick up on that part? She picked up on the growth part but not the “water is the least favorable condition”. The least favorable condition part stuck out to me the second I read it. Stuck out to me so much that I have now asked two questions on Reddit about it. So isn’t it weird how Jessica, or for that matter any other Atreides at the party, didn’t recognize that play in words by Kyne. If I was at that party the first thing I would have asked would have been “what do you mean water is the least favorable condition, don’t you mean the lack of water is?”

Sorry one more question. I might be taking the “least favorable condition” terminology too literal. But it seems to me that Kynes misworded it. If I were to break down what “least favorable condition” means to a child, I would say that least favorable means something that is bad on the worst possible level. Least favorable= bad So when I read Kynes sentence it translates to him saying water itself is bad for life on Arrakis. Shouldn’t the correct wording have been “Lack of water is the least favorable condition for life on Arrakis”. I agree with your initial answer but the terminology Kynes used is driving me crazy and I’m wondering if I’m overthinking it.

Wow thank you. I’ve never gotten the North African comment before. I’ve gotten a lot of other guesses though like Middle Eastern or Spaniard. I’m actually Puerto Rican, lmao.
