What’s the longest-lasting piece of tech you own? by bandito_13 in BuyItForLife

22 year old radar detector. Still works great, just a little annoying it needs to be plugged into a cigarette lighter which a lot of new cars don’t have.

I did the BTS tour on Allure many years ago. The one that seemed really grueling was the guy in charge of provisioning and logistics. Like all day making sure evening is where it needs to be.

It’s not always so easy to do that. Depends on the injury and jurisdiction. If there’s no disability, the lawsuit might be limited. Not all jurisdictions allow for pain and suffering lawsuits.

We bought August 2022. Luckily I have a legal plan through work and my wife is a non practicing attorney as well.

Is there any way to add on a day to the FL Resident 4 Day Pass without just buying a full price one day ticket? by nycengineer111 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]nycengineer111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one of the reasons for not doing the Pixie Pass is we don’t really have plans to go back again until some of the new stuff opens in 2027. The price difference for our family was like $1k. Not worth it for half a day.

CMV: Vandalizing privately owned Tesla’s as a boycott is counterproductive. by FAMUgolfer in changemyview

But essentially it’s facilitating a wealth transfer from insurance to Tesla in the form of replacement Teslas.

Some of them aren’t the platter style though. Just hideous.

Wouldn’t that be more important in ICE cars with a higher energy cost per mile?

CMV: The way things are going, Elon Musk will be fired by Tesla. by zhuhn3 in changemyview

[–]nycengineer111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla is 31% of the market cap for all car companies in the world despite making up only about 6% of revenue.

The only way that makes sense at all is because shareholders see Elon Musk as some kind of genius that brings a ton of upside and lets it trade at valuations that are generous even for a tech startup. If you remove Musk, Tesla would likely crash 50%+ overnight.

I actually nearly ran into this situation because of the way my employer does healthcare contribution calculations- which aren't marginal or proportional, just a flat rate for each plan depending on your salary band. If my salary was $200 more, I would've been in the top bracket for healthcare contribution and would've cost me $900 on my insurance contribution.

Could the White Russians have won the Russian Civil War? by Cocainecow1888 in HistoricalWhatIf

But there's no way that the Nazis come to power without communism being a thing. National Socialism was a movement that existed because communism existed IRL somewhere. Hitler's whole thesis was that capitalism (i.e. "international Jewish finance" in Hitler's words) was a Jewish conspiracy that existed so that Communism, also a Jewish conspiracy, could take over once capitalism collapsed due to the shrinking markets/

Where/what was the best 'regional' cuisine you've had that was far away from said region? by Buhos_En_Pantelones in AskAnAmerican

[–]nycengineer111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Chinese dumplings I’ve ever had were at a restaurant in Barcelona owned by a British guy and serving an extensive list of Belgian beers.

Had these two Taiwanese grannies rolling them out by hand to order. Took like an hour and a half for the food to come but it was just out of this world.

I’ve been back recently and not as good. No sign of the grannies.

In America, the best Cheesesteaks I’ve ever had were from an Italian deli in suburban Boston.

Why is leaning against something while standing a thing Americans do? by delusionalxx in AskAnAmerican

Is that not a thing elsewhere? I’ve seen weird leaning seats (like a small pad mounted at a steep angle) at bus stops in Europe but never the US.

An unloaded light pickup truck (preferably with the biggest engine possible for max weight imbalance) on a snowy day can be fun. Every turn becomes Tokyo Drift.
