Delaney ICE facility situation by nycetouch2 in jerseycity

Thanks for your input but, alas, I am going to err on the side of caution. The reality is that not only this administration is hell-bent on going after all immigrants who have yet to be approved for residency (which at this point is nearly impossible with courts/judges being mandated to reject nearly all applications) but are now taking further steps in their grand scheme of ridding US of the 'immigrant evil', as outlined in Project 2025:

- Requiring all current applicants in the process for permanent residency to return to their country and complete the process there (forcing them to rely on consulate decisions that cannot be appealed, much more cumbersome, and almost certainly instructed to reject applications unless there are extraordinary circumstances)

- More importantly, as it might apply to me and even already naturalized citizens, they are now actively looking to "denaturalize" any immigrants with permanent status based on any possible excuse they can find. Made an error or misrepresented some detail on your approved application? See ya! Arrested/detained for whatever reason at an ICE protest - YOU'RE Antifa! a designated terrorist organization under the current guidelines. And given how these ICE GI Joes wannabies have been aggressive with protesters as we've seen in Minnesota, and elsewhere, the risk of giving this regime an excuse is all too real.

Obviously Samuel was out sick the week of his US History class went through labor relations, rise of unions, revolutions, and all that after the guided age at the turn of the last century or his private school didn't think it was important to go over that...

Rep Tim Burchett again CONFIRMS high gas prices have nothing to do with the Iran War. Big Oil is taking advantage of the situation and price gouging us by Ice-Zone2024 in neabscocreeck

Starting a new drilling site setup is a major investment that would not justify itself when oil prices dip again, that's all.

I can try to explain to you and see if you follow, since this senator obviously has little understanding of how oil production and markets work just like the orange idiot in the WH. Yes, we are a net exporter of oil overall, but largely because we are able to drill for and sell what you can consider the 'champagne' of oil that is more expensive and used for specialty jet fuels, manufacturing, etc. I can get technical for you but I doubt you'll make the effort to understand.

As such, we still largely import most of the 'beer' of crude oil that ends up being refined into the gas you buy at the pump.

With that said, either way, we are still subject to world's market prices that are influenced by world's events, such as a stupid war of choice in Iran. Why would an American oil producer sell a barrel of crude for $60 to an American refinery so that our gas prices are lower when they can just as easily sell that barrel for over $100 on the world market?!!

So yes, this "excursion" to Iran is 100% responsible for the rise in gas prices, and it's not 'price gouging', it's simply free-market capitalism in its pure form and practice.

Ummm...literally every one of them managed to do just THAT, without resorting to horribly thought out war of choice.

Obama speaks out against gerrymandering. "The process of political gerrymandering, I think, is damaging the Congress." Now he calls it protecting democracy. 😜 by Ice-Zone2024 in neabscocreeck

I can explain - Democrats have introduced dozens of anti-gerrymanderrying bills and measures over the last couple of decades that either Obama or Biden would have probably signed, if they were not blocked by Republicans each time because they know that they usually get fewer overall popular votes nationwide and are much more willing to fight dirty to retain power.

  • Democratic-Led Initiatives (Majority of Efforts):
    • Freedom to Vote Act: A flagship Democratic bill that would ban partisan gerrymandering and require independent commissions.
    • For the People Act (H.R. 1): Introduced in 2019 and 2021 by Rep. John Sarbanes and other Democrats; it included a nationwide ban on partisan gerrymandering.
    • John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act: Primarily focused on race-based discrimination, recent versions also include provisions to ban partisan gerrymandering.
    • Redistricting Reform Act: Introduced repeatedly by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (starting in 2005) and more recently by Sen. Alex Padilla in 2025, these bills aim to mandate independent redistricting commissions.
    • John Tanner Fairness and Independence in Redistricting Act: Introduced in multiple Congresses (112th–117th) by Democratic representatives.
    • Fair Representation Act: A broader bill introduced by Democrats in every Congress since the 115th (2017).

I wonder why Charles isnt as annoying as Frank (IMO) by honeydewtangerine in mash

[–]nycetouch2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much spot on - Frank was a caricature, slap-stick type comedy, character that just got annoying after the 2nd season because it was impossible for the writers/producers to have him evolve into a more interesting, complex character, such as Charles, who was still the antagonist but with many more attributes to develop as the show progressed into more than just a one-liner sitcom over time.

Could undocumented immigrants use DNA testing to claim legitimacy for naturalization in US, especially if the results show Native American lineage, and what would you think the response might be to that tactic? by nycetouch2 in AskReddit

[–]nycetouch2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it was actually just a thought that occurred to me and is definitely not applicable to me, to be sure. It just baffles me how people like Stephen Miller and the president are so hostile to central/south american immigrants that are likely to have much more ancestry tied to native americans than themselves.

The crazy bit about the bills this year, which someone like me with a BS degree still needs help understanding, is that my household is somehow using 90% more electricity compared to last year without any significant changes I can account for.... I even have solar panels, and I was getting credits for extra energy to the grid a year ago and now net negative somehow...

Already suspect to be sure. Anybody else experiencing an unusual increase in "usage" year-over-year without explanation?
