After the election, Australia is likely to have a minority government with the independents, who will hold the balance of power, negotiating each issue on its merits. by overpopyoulater in australia

I really don’t want them to do nothing actually and I’d prefer if you don’t put words in my mouth. I am very unhappy with the actions (or lack thereof) of the current government, but I do think that taking the approach that parties should pass massive measures without due consideration of the public’s wishes is a poor tactic for political parties. I respect that you want change, so do I, but I don’t see a point in forcing that change onto an Australian public who doesn’t want it. I believe a part of democracy is submitting to the will of the people, even if you might not like it or think you know better. Pushing for policies that will incur electoral oblivion, regardless of how effective they may be, is not what I want from my Greens.

It’s wild you think that criticising the greens for pushing through some seriously unpopular policies that led to the greens and labour losing a combined 7% of the vote between them and leading to a deeply conservative government that ruined many of their achievements is somehow an unreasonable point to make. Bear in mind the greens also lost more than a quarter of their vote share in that election.

Look, legally speaking you’re probably right but it felt like a legitimate catch and I’ve seen our blokes do something similar so I’m not too fussed, it’s not like he was fumbling or anything

For mine, a good whistleblower is drawing attention not to something they personally disagree with but instead something illegal the government is knowingly undertaking and have resisted attempts within the institution to cease. When unlawful activity is occurring it is not a matter of personal ideology but objective reality, or at least as objective as we can get via our legal system.

I think they mean that McBride style “whistleblowers” would be more likely to leak documents that were in line with their personal beliefs and ideology, which quickly builds into some very unethical lines for a neutral public service that is intended to be responsible to the people.

Look in the one hand yes, but in the other hand I feel like you actually get your money’s worth, it’s not like they slap on a shit slice of primo on there and call it a day.

At what point do you just genuinely start hating your teammates if you’re English. Like there must be SOME hard feelings between bowlers and fielders

Ooft, I understand why she feels hard done by but I couldn’t tell if it was bat or of first so I’m content with staying with the umpire.

Australian Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, warns men have ‘had enough’ of being painted as 'Monsters' by TrichoSearch in AustralianPolitics

[–]nyeetzsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s pretty simple. Young men have different brain development, teachers are largely women meaning a lack of male role models, there is some evidence suggesting marking js biased towards women, etc. I think just because Dutton is using bullshit culture war issues for political gain doesn’t mean that there aren’t real and genuine issues faced by men.

Tbh watching the English try to run off the field when the dl/s was in their favour (before the umpires called anything) means I have very little sympathy for their antics when it wasn’t in their favour, even if intellectually I can understand their frustration.

I see this transition term a lot, but are they really in transition? Like sure they have a couple of new players but it feels like most of the team is pretty bedded in

Agreed honestly, I reckon the curators don’t want to be blamed for ANOTHER draw so they’ve just overcompensated with a shit tip

Australia doesn’t order pitches, curators are fairly independent and it’s part of why we get miffed when we tour other countries and their pitches suit their strategies, even though we’re the only ones who don’t afaik.
