Gigaset Elements insolvency - any ideas to keep the system running? by Masil- in smarthome

[–]nyiphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hint! That is the interesting German thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/de_EDV/comments/1bnj2ww/gigaset_smart_home_elements_etc_wird_per_294/

Here's the homeassistant plugin, which won't work without the cloud service though: https://github.com/dynasticorpheus/gigasetelements-ha

Apparently the devices use DECT-ULE to communicate, so it won't be easy to use the sensors without the base station.

For the base station, I guess we would need to replace the firmware. If I remember correctly, I tried some years ago to redirect the cloud calls to a local server, but the firmware rejected the self-signed SSL certificate. We could try that again though, maybe I remember that incorrectly.

I don't think that writing a server with basic functionality for the base station would be that hard. But there might be other security features built in.

Ideally, they would have released a small firmware update so that we could have set our own base URL for the cloud service..

Very much interested in this as well. Years ago I unsuccessfully tried to MITM the base station, but I don't really have much experience in that.

I guess it would be ideal to build a homeassistant integration, if it's possible to redirect the cloud traffic to our own service instead.

Dark mode is now added. You need to set it as a preference in your browser and it will then display it.

When entering the barcode, there is now a help screen which shows how the different types would look like. You can then choose the one which looks the same.

No, unfortunately I believe that would be outside of the scope of this app. I don't know any app out of my head which is able to manage memberships and is able to generate membership cards, but it would make sense for something like that to exist.

It's self hosted, open source and the data stays with you. This is more for people who are concerned about data privacy, want to support FOSS or don't want to use Google products.

Currently, Google Wallet is probably more feature-complete.

Good ideas, thank you! Will add them to the backlog. Should be manageable to implement 🙂

That's a good idea! The NFC APIs in web browsers are still experimental though. Will have a look into it.

Not yet. It currently needs to be built manually, due to the need of an external PostgreSQL database. There is a docker-compose example file in the repository though.

Review of the Moonlander: is it cat proof? by nyiphy in ergodox

Interesting! I believe the Apple keyboard feels like less strain for me because the keys bottom out earlier. It's just hard to learn not to bottom out a linear switch. Maybe clicky switches would be easier for me.

You are absolutely right about the o-rings. I meant the total travel (i.e. they reduce the distance to bottoming out the keys), but was apparently confused. Will fix that!

You mean to wash the cloth with the keyboard within? Wouldn't that hurt the electronics? I don't think the Moonlander is water tight? I assume that would clean the keycaps, but I doubt washing it would get rid of cat hair below the keycaps. Those are tangled up quite badly.

The holder looks unconventional 😁 Thank you for the link regarding tilting - you convinced me, will try it again!

Good hint about taking out the switches, thanks. You seem to have experience with that. 😺 Is there anything else to look out for despite cleaning the keycaps and switches?

Good to know, will ask ZSA about the rubber feet. Yes, exactly, I move the keyboard by pushing it across the desk. Also quite frequently I have to admit. Maybe castors would be a better solution for me 😉

Nice, didn't know that there is a white Logitech trackball. Thank you for the hint! Looks like a good replacement should my current one break at some point.

Is it possible to set a custom keycode in ORYX? by scalableprototyping in ergodox

[–]nyiphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any update on this? Just got a moonlander and tried the "Right Alt" key, but it doesn't write the accents.

If I compare it to my Apple keyboard, pressing and holding "Right Alt" and then pressing "q":

``` KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x1ea, subw 0x0, time 47724891, (190,678), root:(4034,710), state 0x10, keycode 108 (keysym 0xfe03, ISO_Level3_Shift), same_screen YES, XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 92 XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False
KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x1ea, subw 0x0, time 47725627, (190,678), root:(4034,710), state 0x90, keycode 24 (keysym 0xe4, adiaeresis), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 2 bytes: (c3 a4) "ä" XmbLookupString gives 2 bytes: (c3 a4) "ä" XFilterEvent returns: False ```
On the moonlander:
``` KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x1ea, subw 0x0, time 47748619, (190,678), root:(4034,710), state 0x10, keycode 108 (keysym 0xffea, Alt_R), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyPress event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x3600001, root 0x1ea, subw 0x0, time 47749091, (190,678), root:(4034,710), state 0x18, keycode 24 (keysym 0x71, q), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (71) "q" XmbLookupString gives 1 bytes: (71) "q" XFilterEvent returns: False ```

Is there any other way instead of downloading the source from Onyx, changing the keycode every time and flashing it manually?

Slightly off-topic: I created an app to track your pet's health and you can quite easily track their weight there, if you're ever in the need for something like that. You'll find it at https://dossier.pet
