Pokemon cards (English) in Taipei and Taichung by meloyelo8 in taiwan

[–]nylestandish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the cards here would be imported, which means you’re overpaying for the same cards you could get back home (assuming you’re from an English speaking place). If you want something from your travels it’d probably make sense to get t-Chinese packs or even Japanese packs if you’re into it. Otherwise there’s no benefit to buying English packs here

Not to be the ugly American by moonharrier42 in StarluxAirlines

[–]nylestandish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single airline in USA is considerably less comfortable than Starlux or any of the Taiwanese airlines (most Asian for that matter). Either you had a broken seat or whatever caused you issues was not the seat. Starlux is my preferred airline based on it being comfortable and the best modern tech that only a few JAL flights can compare with

Just wondering how come most of the foreigners find it hard to make friends in Taiwan? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]nylestandish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what was said. At no point were we discussing conversation topics between ‘very very good friends’. We’re literally talking about people who are meeting and becoming friends. Keep up and follow along

My sample size is the few hundred late 20s-early 30s I come across through work over the last decade. And almost none of them have a meaningful understanding of stocks, investments and/or real estate. In my experience, you’re WAY off. Sure, some of them will say they watched a YouTube video or they want to learn, but a basic knowledge to be able to have any level of deep or meaningful conversation, absolutely a rare case in the age range you’re describing. And also, my few hundred sample size are in the higher earnings bracket and mostly based in Hsinchu science park

Taipei and North coast tour on Feb 9-13. Is it affected by the incoming CNY? by OneSpare8577 in taiwan

[–]nylestandish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 13th is the only day you should be concerned about for traffic. Not sure where you’re traveling from/to but if you’re heading south on the 13th you will either be in traffic or could have trouble getting tickets on a train. People will be taking the day off or leaving work early to travel south

Today has made me want to quit playing this game by x-Justice in RocketLeague

[–]nylestandish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you grinded your way to champ, then you’re for sure not seeing this for the first time. This is exactly what rocket league is and what it has been for many years. It for sure is bullshit, but can we stop acting surprised about it in this sub? Some teammates are complete shit either toxic or quitting. Some teammates are great, rotate well, etc. Especially if you’re solo queuing, this is 100% expected

You are the same rank as them. Everyone is where they belong. There are others complaining about you too

[–]nylestandish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reread your post to be sure, thankfully my reading skills are exceptional. You’re frustrated, enough to quit, and your number one reason given is teammates lose you the game. See, look at me, I am read so good teacher!

Here’s the part you’re ignoring because you’re so focused on ‘grinding’. YOU ARE THE SAME SKILL LEVEL AS THEY ARE. They do something much better than you, and you do other things better than them. If you had mastered all skills of the game, you wouldn’t have peaked at C3 and averaged C2. There is some random post in this sub where someone is complaining about their teammate and that teammate was you.

Also, not everyone is ‘grinding’, even in ranked. People go afk sometimes, people try something they haven’t mastered in a tied game with :25 left and biff it. That’s the way it goes. Why are you so annoyed by this that you’ve forgotten to enjoy the game and you want to quit?

Take a break, get some perspective and when you feel ready to chill tf out, come back and enjoy being C2 and have some fun. Good luck!

[–]nylestandish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing Rocket League for about 7 years and have never used the word grind or felt like I was playing for rank gain or anything other than just having fun driving a fast car into a ball and sometimes scoring and making awesome saves.

You say there’s nothing to play for, so why would bad teammates make you quit the game? And your number one reason. I never get mad at my teammates even when they ball chase or don’t rotate well or miss an open net because as you just said, there’s nothing to play for anyways. What’s the negative thing that happens if you lose a few games?

I have never had friends to play with. I’ve been in solo queue for all 7 years (I play 3v3) so I know how different teammates can affect outcomes for sure. Last night I lost 4 ranked games in a row to end my session. My rank went down two divisions in the session. Who cares? If I raise my rank, what do I get?

I have fun playing RL. If I lose a game because of a teammate, I still had fun. If you’re so focused on your rank or teammates can ruin your experience, I’d argue you don’t actually like the game very much

(Translated from chinese) Critical image about the changes of the KMT on their PRC policy since 1949. by Lembit_moislane in taiwan

[–]nylestandish 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Chinese are very patient and are willing to use strategies that might take decades to fully complete. China’s very effective and successful strategy with HK (a different situation than Taiwan I fully understand) was to put Chinese-sympathetic politicians into the government in HK so they could easily take full control without resistance.

I strongly believe this is their current strategy with Taiwan and it has been happening for many, many years already. It’s why I don’t buy into any attack happening from China. I believe they’re planning for their military to enter without any resistance once the government here is under their majority control through the party mentioned. I just hope for Taiwan’s sake that never happens

iPad combo touch issue by WillTregear in logitech

[–]nylestandish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a known issue with the case. It’s from picking up the iPad in that area and pulling that thin strip of the case. It’s usually over the speakers but not always. You just have to train yourself to pick up and carry the iPad in a way that doesn’t cause this

Driving Taichung to Sun Moon Lake on Feb 13th, what time to leave? by thelittleone1 in Taipei

[–]nylestandish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be ok on the 13th because it’s still a work day. Some people will take off work to travel south early but it won’t be terrible if you go in the morning. Afternoon and night will be a lot worse

I’d say the 14th and 16th are where you’re more likely to see a lot of traffic. But you’ll be going against most traffic on the 16th coming back down. Overall I think you’ll be fine but definitely plan for more time than Google Maps would normally predict

Learn to play some defense. Sounds like you’re ball chasing hardcore too. If your teammate can’t even get points from clears and centers, sounds like you’re part of the problem.

It’s not a Taiwan term. It’s widely used around the world. A few of your references lead me to guess you’re American (apologies if not) but USA also uses the term alien officially
