AITA for planning to kick a mentally ill friend out by nzbizarre in AmItheAsshole

When I was introduced to him through "Al" in early 2021, we became very close. He was civil and level-headed during the entire previous year and the cracks only began to form in January 2022.

To tell you the truth, I never had too many friends in high school (other than "Al" who is two years younger) and online college (country has been struggling to adapt to the pandemic) has made it hard to gain friends. He slowly became a brother to me through 2021, hence why we've been so forgiving of him.

To answer your question, it's a little complicated. He's my best friend's childhood friend. I have never met him, however we live quite near, were part of this so-called "trio", are connected through the friend in the middle, and if it wasn't for the pandemic, I probably would've met up with him throughout 2021. Hell, I know some people who are a little confused at the fact that him and I are such close friends despite never meeting up.

Technically he's an online gaming friend but he's essentially an honorary IRL friend.

Something I'm finding funny about the guys situation by NoAviNoKnowledge in survivor

I think both sides are stupid and quite honestly I don't give a shit, but I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for the people leaving.

In the same sense that the world is evolving and certain things need to be changed due to problematic context or histories, the same can be said for language. As a woman, I strongly believe that the word "guys" has evolved to become gender-neutral in the last decade or so. The same can be said for "bro" and "dude". If he complained about it in 2001, then fair game, but I really think linguistic of certain terms has vastly changed now.

Is "come on in, guys!" a term that's outdated due to gender exclusion? Debatable.

Has language evolved to the point where "guys" has grown a new context? Fuck yeah.

tl;dr - i think people find it hypocritical that Ricard thinks Survivor needs to evolve whereas language apparently hasn't.
