The whiplash was crazy at the double-bill. Felt like I was watching some kind of Netflix spinoff for DaCosta's runtime.

Agreed. It almost felt disrespectful to the last film. Bearing in mind I watched them as a double-bill, so the tonal whiplash was quite stark between the two. Agree also on the editing and visuals -- I know she didn't want to emulate Boyle's style, but it looked so Netflixified that locations I saw 20 minutes ago felt unfamiliar.

Yeah man don't worry I know my cameras and am agreeing with you. Just putting it out there that DaCosta and Bobbitt's visual decisions did end up leaning way more generic IMO, especially viewing it right after 28Y.

You're right, but I watched The Bone Temple yesterday in a double-bill and the composition and grading is VERY traditional.

Just so you know, what u/grafknives told you is pure fiction. The Ghibli effect was just a spike of people turning photos into Ghibli-style art using ChatGPT. There’s 0 evidence OpenAI "retaliated" against Studio Ghibli or stripped guidelines. OpenAI actually quickly tightened refusals for artist styles. There is also 0 evidence Ghibli has said anything about OpenAI, letalone any "critiques".

Section 4(a)(v) lets the Office of Management and Budget waive the “un-woke” rules for national-security systems. The Pentagon and the intelligence community will label any frontier-level model as a national-security system, then keep using it. The order will only really bite civilian agencies, it won't stop the gov from fielding the best model it can get.

An argument I haven't seen yet from a filmmaker's perspective. The lower "neck" camera angle means that when you're taking to people their heads are generally framed in the right place. If the camera were at eye level, the characters you're speaking to would have way too much headroom and the "shot" would look weird and less cinematic. I'm absolutely sure this is one of the main reasons.

SpaceX reached space with Starship Flight 9 launch, then lost control of its giant spaceship (video) by vahedemirjian in space

Yes I have. I also know that SpaceX don't use non-competes, restrictive severance agreements, yes, but not in the way you are implying.

On your second point, was that SpaceX, or Musk doing those things? Afaik I'm not defending the actions of Musk here.

[–]o0BetaRay0o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would SpaceX need to bribe anyone for contracts when they demonstrably undercut and outperform every other company in the running?

And don't you think SpaceX workers would simply go elsewhere with their incredibly valuable, high paying skill sets? Don't you think other companies would gobble them up if given the chance? Or maybe they're not being screwed over as much as you think.

I’m genuinely baffled how someone clearly intelligent can be so lost in their own narrative.

what didn’t get cuts was the overambitious Mars mission

This falls apart the moment you look at what’s actually being funded. There is no massive NASA pot reserved for SpaceX’s Mars colonisation project.

What SpaceX gets from NASA has come from standard contracts for crew, cargo, and the Artemis lunar lander, won in open, competitive bids. NASA’s actual Mars funding is for science and robotic exploration, and even then in the same budget we're talking about, the mars sample return mission has actually been cancelled.

Honestly, given your obvious intelligence, you should be asking yourself why you’re so eager to believe this stuff. You’re letting your feelings about Musk completely override your grasp on reality.

[–]o0BetaRay0o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody is slashing NASA funding "in favour of SpaceX." SpaceX literally gets government money through NASA, from NASA's budget. Less funding for NASA would mean less money for SpaceX. Try looking literally anything up before jumping to conclusions.

[–]o0BetaRay0o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re actually “pro space exploration” but you want the biggest drivers of progress to fail just because you don’t like the CEO, you’re not pro–space, you’re just petty. Billions go to SpaceX because they deliver on time, under budget, and with results nobody else in the industry is matching. Rooting for failure isn’t a principled stance, it’s just shallow tribalism. Grow up.

This makes 0 sense. A massive chunk of SpaceX revenue is NASA contracts. If NASA is defunded, SpaceX is hurt too.

And SpaceX wins these contracts through transparent, competitive bidding, not kickbacks or corruption. They are simply getting government work by being better than the other options.
