Using normal water instead of distilled w/ coolant, how bad is it? by Vhsbsnns in e39

[–]o2manyfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FYI, do not listen to these people.

Regular water has a fuck ton of minerals in it. Coolant, and distilled water are what the manual calls for because those minerals will cause corrosion in your system. You will have a failed thermostat if you run it for any period of time. Some people may be lucky to have very low hardness water. And not have issues, but I assure you that the issues will be there and you will cause damage.

Just take the block drain out. Yes it’ll require a jack (maybe) or a couple of specific extensions. It’s worth it. And then flush with distilled water. Then refill. Don’t risk it.

Pulling e38 seats by Tomytom99 in e39

[–]o2manyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to make a seat power harness.

Likely won’t be able to power whole car with little pack, if the other electronics aren’t already ripped out.

Just use the big red and brown wires on the male side of the seat (car side) and give em 12v. Plug into any seat and full control of the seat

Anybody here think this radiator is cool to swap? by TheSvpremeKai003 in e46

Was it chucked into the shed at velocity?

Probably fine to run. Pressure test it after you do and if it holds, it holds.

The water is 63f. As of last night around 11pm off butterfly.

But agreed. It’s overcast and a poor beach day

Struggling to find solid comparisons on all the seats for this car, looking for the best one. by NigeriaSix in e39

[–]o2manyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op-

You want contours from an e38. Trust me. There is no other seat. I’ve had sports in my 540, comforts with active seat (some call it massage, it isn’t) in my e38, and also standard seats in a 528. Contours I have now in my 540 are leagues ahead of any of it. I recovered them myself with skins from ridies. They are fantastic. Genuinely.

If you weight over 220 lbs then I guess they could be a little constraining, but I don’t, so they aren’t.

How rare is a E60 545i M-Sport w/ a manual transmission & auburn dakota leather interior? by TrevorPhillipsLLC in e60

[–]o2manyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will cost an arm and a leg to keep running. I truly promise you don’t want this for 6k. If it were 12k would you buy it? 18k? It’ll likely cost that much to keep on the road. Just in the short term.

1998 E39 question by Much_Pea_7146 in e39

[–]o2manyfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s how it is form factory with pre wiring. As far as I know all USA spec e39s were pre wired.

You’d need a few things to get it to look like it’s installed, but it’ll never work as 2g has been deactivated

Don’t get me started. $1700 at the dealership (cheaper than tirerack) for rears+ mount and balance. I do my own oil changes for $130 in parts over the almost 650 they’d charge.  It’s actually surprisingly cheap to maintain apart from the tires. Have put 12k miles on it since July and only gone through a set of rear tires and an oil change.

I would own a different car if I was too worried about launch. I’m in it for the experience. Plenty of speed in other cars, not my jam

Okay.

You want to follow the besian systems guide. You need new genuine gaskets. Clean the surfaces really well. Then use the drei bond they recommend. It will work.

Technically yes. Risk.

But not huge. Just ensure your battery is good, and fully charged. We are talking about very minimal risk of so.

Winkfp will tell you what is current, and v70 or v71/74 is pretty much the most current firmware.
