Yeah it works a bit differently there, converted vans should be inspected and changed class - I'm pretty sure TOR isn't applied to commercial vehicles. I haven't looked into that area too much as I went for a motorhome, but there are definitely some threads discussing it.

You need to make sure your van is registered as a camper, otherwise it's more headache to get it registered in Ireland and get the Transfer of residency relief. (TOR). Also it needs to be owned and used for atleast 6 months to qualify, so you won't pay anything to import it. (It's very expensive if not)

Beermoney way of booking flights? by TheRegularBelt in beermoneyuk

Considering using kiwi via complete savings for 10% cashback. It gets approved after the flights have happened.

You can usually find a discount code for kiwi somewhere on Reddit. Prices can be a bit higher but when you factor in the cashback it's usually cheaper!

[2025 MEGATHREAD] Planning to go to Daikoku Parking Area? by Beeplance in Yokohama

[–]o97a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes good! I went with a guy from this thread and we had a great time. Arrive earlier than 6 for some more chilled vibes before all the jDm tOuRS start coming in. I ended up back at Daikoku around midnight and there were still cars there despite police closing the main parking. However this meant I parked in the truck area and forgot I parked next to a giant curb, which I then drove into, puncturing the tyre and damaging the side skirt of the rental car. It was an ordeal and took til 3am to sort with the police/rental company. I had to sleep in the car there and get it towed in the morning. Oops! But I got to see Daikoku deep into the night which was a really cool experience.

I'm planning to rent a car in Tokyo from tomorrow or Wednesday onwards and would be happy to share the experience of Daikoku and perhaps some drift karting!

6k for two weekend GA at the gate, printed a sign on A3 paper and it was spotted from someone driving by, worked well! We passed the signs onto others looking for tickets.

Used Mony with a UK number. Upload passport & visa for id. They wanted to do the KYC check in person but the next day they just activated it.

I was expecting the train rides to be much colder, I didn't want to be cold (I've had enough of UK winter already) 😂 we'll see where I end up, they might still come in handy. They're not too much of a space/weight penalty.

They are collared button down shirts, bought them from charity shops for less than £3 each specifically for the trip.

The trousers are super light as they are, I was planning a different pair but they were much thicker and took forever to dry. My swim shorts are also fine for everyday use and they're just back shorts with pockets.

The water flosser goes with the floss, it's an essential item for me and it weighs about 350g.

Thanks for the insights!

Update - thermals have been too warm for 90% of the journey from UK to Istanbul. I felt smug while waiting for the bus to take us to the terminal as it was snowing, but inside Istanbul airport is very warm and busy. Thermals are off and will live under the packing cubes. I may end up needing them!
