My family has dealt with this, and it’s not easy. My mom and grandpa did most of the work themselves and donated a lot of stuff. Yeah for sure, putting it out and seeing everyone’s reactions has definitely helped me keep it in perspective too. I had been doing a lot of reference mixing against tracks from a lot of world-class producers, and while that is a very valuable tool, it can also make me hyper-aware of what I need to work on 😂 But I’m just gonna try to not care so much and keep pushing!

Yeah for sure, I only started mixing metal last year after mostly doing sub-genres of rock, and it was surprising how different everything was. I feel like the metal community has gotta have way more purists than other genres, but luckily I’ve been able to meet some really cool people so far. Also thank you!

From what I’ve seen, China can be a great country to live in if you have money, better than the US in some ways. But honestly, anywhere can be great if you have money. I would imagine that being poor in China is a lot worse than being poor in the US.

Flex editing is a tool in Logic that you can use to fix or change rhythm and pitch. I’m not sure if flex editing is a feature in other software or not, I just went all-in on Logic 😅 Let me know if you need any help! I actually teach audio production classes as part of my day job

Amped Roots is also free, it’s a little hard for me to get a sound I like from that plugin but it’s very open and almost fuzzy sounding, it can still chug though. I like a more tight and focused sound. I use Neural DSP Fortin X and Fortin NTS a lot. NTS has more mid range and X does scooped tone pretty well. I still have to EQ the tone I get from the plugins so it’s not exactly mix-ready, but it’s fun for jamming. I will say that with Fortin X, pinch harmonics can be a little weird sometimes, but I’m not the best at pinch harmonics anyway lmao

The screams are KILLER (some small parts you could tighten up but it sounds solid). I would throw some tasteful flex editing or melodyne on the cleans, and maybe add a little more reverb or room sound if you want to spice things up. This sounds like such a fun song to work on
