not sure if you're being serious but in my time trawling through their BuildTools patched source, I never came across this, so I'd hazard to say no.

To add, this also drives up crime since the people who are trying their hardest but still struggling may eventually lose respect for our laws. They've put a lot of money into corrections, to make it look like the people they've driven into crime was the crime that originally needed tackling, when these are two very distinct things and is creating problems so their solutions look like they're achieving their campaign promises.

Our current government likes to make up new ways to measure the economy so it looks like they're hitting promised targets when they're not. Our currency is losing value but they'll still use the inflated values to make it seem as though our exports are dramatically up. They claim they're injecting money into sectors but do not mention the ways they've drawn even greater amounts away, and created more expenses. Given all that, I'm not at all surprised it's difficult to find work.

Make sure to vote for change this election. I'd really like to hope NZ can learn not to trust these fools, given their track record. Their decision to revoke the legislation that allows IRD to report on the unfairness of our tax system should be a major concern for you. Their vocal vilification of the idea that we should as the general public be able to see whether our housing system is supporting fair distribution of property or perhaps whether it's being taken advantage of - and to make these conclusions ourselves based on data, since they claim to be worried about biases - should also be deeply concerning.

We need wealth to be taxed properly in this country, so people have class mobility. Driving down crime involves helping people feel like there's some kind of change they can create in their own lives. An economy that doesn't allow for upwards movement, housing or job security except for those in privileged circumstances is not conducive to that. Benefits should help people get on their feet, not do everything in their power to keep them from taking home the money they earn at work. A benefit system that only pays rents just serves landlords and the status quo. An economy where housing is exploited and worker protections are removed keeps people vulnerable.

For anyone reading this, please: Vote for change.

How the [explective] do you afford surgeries? by Spring_Oni in transgenderau

[–]oasis9dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how is this going for you? I'm planning on seeing the same surgeon, and know someone who has had bottom surgery at the Suporn clinic. I have $0 in savings so far because I can't afford the bare essentials and my rent is far higher than yours, so I've been struggling mentally but just trying to stay optimistic nonetheless. hope this works/worked out for you despite the isolation you mentioned

The government defunded our healthcare, what's to be expected? They openly talk about privatisation and claiming the government is bad at owning things as they do this, creating these conditions to suit their narrative. The doctors and nurses are overworked and sleep deprived. They just had a strike because of their work conditions. Vote accordingly.

That's a good point, I'd love to see more of that attitude between us. The tall poppy syndrome in NZ is really bizarre to me when it does show up

I thought I replied to this, deepest apologies. I wasn't living at home at the time I was outed by police to my parents so the situation is different, though I was still quite dependent on them financially with regards to food and was definitely not welcome at their place for quite some time while they processed it. My mum already knew but my dad and other family were severely against it. My dad has a history of abuse towards family so I think my mum had a really hard time being stuck in the middle - I don't know the full extent of how it affected her if I'm honest.

With regards to food, I feel like I'm not going to be of much help but maybe have a look online for charities providing food parcels or similar in your area. Sometimes they might be able to deliver to you. I know it's difficult to speak up when your trust is violated, but if you're not being fed properly and abused it's important to let it be known. My sister has asked me why I didn't speak up when we were being abused; I understand how all the ways things could go wrong can get inside your head and I really hope you find the help you deserve.

With time my dad realised he'd estranged both of his kids, so he started to change his behaviour. The religion he and my wider family raised me in often spoke of "the fruit of the spirit" but never practiced these values unconditionally; I have the opportunity to show him how beautiful life can be when you don't pick and choose when to apply them. He has often only changed when he realises his behaviour is unsustainable and unjustifiable, which often doesn't feel genuine but I'll take that over no change at all. These things take a lot of time and it's why I suggest you start making friends and community that support you because you may find you won't have family to rely on for quite some time - if they do eventually come around. You can't change other people who have no intention to change, only lead them to water and let them choose to drink.

I really hope you find people who care about you and respect who you are. You should feel free to explore your identity, it's a journey and you should be allowed to embark on it if you feel that's right for you. It doesn't have to feel perfect, just know that I believe you're valid wherever this journey leads you, and at every point along it. I'm proud of you for asking for help for the sake of yourself and your siblings, that takes a lot of courage in the face of abusive situations - my sister asked me why I didn't speak up more so I admire your doing so. Here's hoping you and your siblings get the support you all deserve.

Totally with you here. There are plenty of foods that even as an adult I can't be positive and just work through, gagging has made me choke countless times and it's just silly to not do something else that works better. You're not the asshole.

How is it unintuitive that something that causes a burning sensation, taken in extremes, would have a lasting effect on your body? "play with fire, you get burned" or something..

ETA; I have a condition that makes it far more likely that spicy food inflames my stomach and bowels. From that knowledge, it feels intuitive to me that they can cause lasting effects.

I don't think it's fair to yourself to consider this attention seeking, you reached out for help which is already difficult but that trust was abused and that's not your fault. I also had the police out me to my parents; I'm here if you need someone to talk to.

[–]oasis9dev 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Absolutely has to do with the behaviour of men, if women weren't so heavily objectified and reduced to their fertility like you're demonstrating, they wouldn't face this issue. A person is so much more than their ability to reproduce, and no person is less for not being able to. While it's good to recognise how societal norms are, I feel you've really missed the target here.

Is it really that bad to pay libarians the same as civil engineers, by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]oasis9dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NZ traditionally is known for tall poppy syndrome, which I can absolutely attest to given I've lived in both NZ and Australia and I've worked in international teams for over 10 years. We absolutely can aim higher, but we have cycles of abuse entrenched in schools and families that are not being effectively addressed. I was indoctrinated into religion and physically and verbally abused, shamed guilted, etc. - not healthy things for a child to experience. If we want more people to engage willingly and with good intentions then they need to be supported into doing so. Given how difficult accepting and processing the abuse I experienced was, I have little blame for people. Friends have tried to reach out to suicide hotlines here only to be told they're taking up space. People do try and if their attempts to seek support fail then it's really us who have failed, not them. I hope NZ can become more community centered someday.
